Definite penalty - wasn't sure about the red initially but it does look blatant on the replay.

I thought professional fouls in the box were now yellow due to double jeopardy or something?

Think it's to do with him being the last man.

Isn't that a 'professional foul' though? I thought the only reds in the box now were saving a goal with your hand or violent conduct. Must be wrong, but I aint complaining!

Is it to do with it being a clear goal scoring opportunity?

Seems logical to me. Can see that if there's not a chance to score then a pen and a red card seems unfair (hence double jeopardy), but that chance would arguably have been easier to score than a penalty, so we'd have been at a disadvantage.

Then again, not sure if logic even comes into it anymore!

They did change the wording to of the rule to take the double jeopardy out of the equation. Now it is all about intent. If the defender makes a fair attempt to get the ball(in the ref's eyes) but fails and concedes a penalty, then it's just a yellow card. If the ref judges that the player intentionally stopped the goalscoring chance(professional foul in old money) then it's still a red...

Double jeopardy only applies if you commit the foul trying to play the ball. Dragging him by the neck isn't playing the ball.

Edit just beat me to it cod eye!

No attempt to play the ball.
