But you can force me to stay locked in my home. Can force the company I work for to close. Can force my job to be gone. Why is it that the public at large have measures forced to n them. Have their civil liberties and human rights removed. And yet for the people it's all designed to help there is nothing forced? The amount of money that's been wasted, the amount of money it's cost the public. We could give each carer a £50k bonus for moving in and still be quids in
Let me try this again, the number of people that would need to be "shielded" in the UK and locked away is greater than the threshold for herd immunity with COVID (if it exists). It needs upwards of 63% of the population to be immune for herd immunity to work (probably over 70% to be safe). The number of people that need shielding due to pre-existing conditions that make them high risk is over 40%. This assumes that there are no long-term sequelae due to Covid infection - Babies born between 1918 and 1924 were over twice as likely to develop Parkinson's disease as those before or after due to the Spanish Flu (they were asymptomatic for flu). Are you *sure* that exposing all the population wouldn't cause long-term health issues on the young. And those carers would have to be away from their families, their friends, and their homes for months or potentially even years. Would *you* take a £50k bonus to move into a care home knowing that you can't go home or see any of your family or friends for the next year? Maybe 2 years.
I guess how many of those carers have families at home who they live with, so forcing them to move out would be wrong IMO. A voluntary scheme yeah but based on the above not forced.
Give me the choice between £50k to move in and losing my job and my home under the present situation then yes I would. Also who said they'd have to move in for that long? The government has spent over £200b so far with these stupid measures. Give a carer a whole £100k and how many can you pay? 2million carers, that's how many. Give them £50k and that's 4million carers. The recruitment drive I've been banging on about for 7 months now that simply hasn't happened would have provided a hell of a lot of carers who could now be taking it in turns isolating in care homes. Just like the one in Sheffield did and didn't have a single case.
Yes the scheme should be voluntary but the shielding of the vulnerable should be enforced. It's just wrong that an 80 year old can stroll round barnsley market and if they catch it and die it's used as yet more ammunition to **** up other people's lives. If businesses are forced to close because of risk then vulnerable should be forced to shield due to risk.
Back in march and April as you may recall. I was allowed to leave the four walls of my home for up to one hour a day exercise and for absolute essential food shopping. They were the only reasons I could leave my house. If that's not being forced to stay in your home then I don't know what is.
Once you move in, you can't see your wife/partner, you can't see your nephew, you can't go home, you can't go for a walk, you can't go to the shops, you can't go to the pub, you can't do anything - otherwise you are not protecting the people you are caring for. Unless you want to go into self-isolation for over a week every time. Perhaps there are some wonderful people out there who are willing to take that on (do we still have nuns in the UK?), but most wouldn't if they knew the reality of it. And this is not going to be over next week, or next month. If we are lucky, and a vaccine comes quickly, it might be over in the UK in 2-3 years. If we are unlucky it will be nearer 5 years.
So in the height of it when over a thousand a day were dying you were asked to stay at home but still leave for essential stuff and exercise. I'm not getting into this any further because it does nobody no good whatsoever debating it, but exagerrating the situation isn't helpful.
No I wasn't asked to. I was forced to by law. As I said, I was forced to stay in my home. Saying I was not is quite simply a lie, and such a stupid lie that I'm shocked you would say it.
Some countries at points didn't even allow you to go out to exercise. We have never had a proper total lockdown like others have. You are exagerrating it to further your agenda. I get why you are pissed off, i am too and theres a tonne of things i dont agree with. But nobody "locked" you in your home so stop being silly.
I was legally not allowed to leave my home except for essential shopping and for a small amount of time restricted exercise. I wasn't physically locked in my home but I damn sure was legally.
You are aware that graph shows the number of positive tests out of all tests. It is good that so many are getting tested and most are negative, but there were 21000+ positive cases announced today - the highest figure ever in the UK except for the catch-up after the Excel glitch.. Patients in Hospital and on ventilators have gone up by 50% in the last 10 days (full figures aren't in for yesterday yet) and deaths are at the highest level since July. https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/healthcare
I think you're taking the completely wrong tact. We shouldn't force anyone to do anything. We should educate everyone of the risks involved. The older generation are old enough and wise enough to make their own decisions. For those impaired then their carers can. It's our responsibility to look after ourselves and each other. We should not be dictated to. For all those who want to be dictated to and want to be controlled by the government, there are many nations in this world that will do that for you. Choose one. My grandfather fought against oppression in North Africa in WWII. I'm not going to just give up the freedom he helped win and succumb to that oppression. I'm not signing up to something that is against everything this country and our history is about.
I suspect most people over 80 don't give a **** about Covid. They know their days are limited and they'd rather live each day to the full than cower in their homes, alone miserable and separated from their families. What have they got to lose? I reserve the right to change my mind if I ever reach 80
you are going to forcibly lock up 22 million people. Good luck with that. If you want a job as a carer you can have one tomorrow so crack on.
