Take aways from this, club knew since Jan of reason for ban, and definitely by March when he was charged. So they've been keeping us in the dark and lying somewhat when saying they didn't know. Surely they knew a 2 year ban was likely
Sounds a little bit like he didn’t get the best legal advice on dealing with the case too. A premier league player would have definitely got out of this I reckon.
He was charged in March. The hearing was in September. There would be little point revealing he'd been charged to be fair, although the outcome could have been revealed sooner i.e. after 3rd September.
Initially my thought was how hard would ,it have been for someone to come up with, I took this not realising etc, but then the cynic in me says perhaps it was better to claim ignorance of knowing as it only comes with a 2 year ban whereas if you confirm where it came from it could have resulted in 4 years.
He is a foreign national and as such is quite vulnerable to taking over the counter meds without knowing what is in them. It is very easy to take something which is on the WADA list. We had a case where Bell the skier was banned for using Vicks. In the UK Vicks didn't contain ephedrine I think it was but in Europe it did. I have done the UKAD Clean Sport Advisor Course and it is a minefield.
I can't believe you'd throw around an accusation that our charlatan owners would keep us in the dark about something.....
Alain Baxter the skier, and a vick inhaler in America. Your post has just prompted me to reread some of the story. The isotope of metamphetamine the vick contained wasn’t even active so had no stimulant properties. He was robbed. His appeal to keep his medal was refused by CAS on the say so of an expert who was a complete hypocrite and contradicted his own evidence in allowing many US athletes to compete having failed drugs tests having had over the counter cold and flu medication - including Carl Lewis. It was very sad what they did to Baxter, a decision which meant the medal he’d won went to a more traditional skiing nation. Austria...
Thanks for that. Fair enough. On this issue, I dont believe the owners lied to us, and they couldnt have confidently predicted a two year ban. If theyd come out and said that people would be accusing them of not sticking by our man and looking to cash in on saved wages.
