Can't even sign the players we have got!! Hope it can be worked out, otherwise no doubt he'll be sold on.
Was nearly sorted a couple of weeks back according to Dane. ON ALEX MOWATT CONTRACT “I spoke with Alex’s agent just a couple of days ago now and there’s good dialogue there. The bonus with this one is that Alex is a good person and his agent is a good person. So there’s no chance of things getting contentious. “We are working together to try and come to an agreement and we aren’t too far apart I don’t think. He’s a vital part of our team here and will definitely be with us this season at least. “We have already told a number of clubs that we aren’t selling certain players. With Jacob Brown it was a little different because he was adamant that he wanted out.”
Mowatt isn’t daft he knows the club doesn’t show any ambition and will be happy to either run down his contract or let the club sell him .
That’s not how I’m reading it. It gives me the impression that he will be here to the end of the season irrespective of whether a new contract is agreed. The thing is I can’t see him commanding an huge fee anyway so they may well feel it is better to keep him. Equally and not for the first time, I could be completely wrong
I suspect there are no serious offers in for Mowatt- if someone were to meet our price he would go if we cant agree terms. Mowatt will doubtless be happy to run down his contract confident he can get a deal as a free agent next summer but I dont think he has sides queuing up to sign him. If Barnsley can pay him close to what he thinks he can get elsewhere he will stay but otherwise he will take his chances. Might be a risky strategy as by next summer he might be in quite a weak negotiating position if we are still in the relegation scrap. I suspect we want to keep him until at least January but then things might depend on who is Head Coach and were in the table we are
His problem will be if he can't get a Championship club, then I can't see league 1 clubs going anywhere near what he's asking for given the salary cap. If we can offer him a pay increase and a three year deal, he should give it serious thought. It will be a guaranteed contract at a time of uncertainty, and if he does well and a championship club comes in for him, he can be confident that the club will accept an offer.
We dont know what the sticking point is though - it could be we are insisting on a large reduction in salary in case of relegation for example rather than the salary we are offering him, or it may be he wants a 3 year deal but we are only offering 2. Or it might be a release clause. We are just assuming its something like he wants 20k per week and the most we will offer is 10k - its the most likely scenario but not the only one
Putting him in the shop window by announcing this in the press, just before the transfer deadline this month.
Don’t forget, Mowatt’s a bit of a home-bird from what I remember. He likes to stay local and has always done so. He’s done his big moves etc, and not so long ago was looking at the lower leagues. I suspect the hold-up is the relegation clause - how much his wages drop by. He might want only a small reduction if he commits longer term.
It could be that we are asking him to get a shot on target or, who knows maybe even the odd decent set piece delivery
he did one at Boro just before we got the pen a beautifully flighted ball to the back post headed back to Helik who would probably have scored had the keeper not punched him. One swallow and counting
Enough people on here were certain he would signed a new contract if we stayed up. Maybe Alex has lost his pen?
Id say a promoted club from league 1 would look at Mowatt but not an established championship team. I don't particularly rate Mowatt but we have nobody better who can take his place.
