Loan a few quality players to supplement our investment players and try to just stabilise. Were not a million miles off being able to at least compete.
if that’s the limit of our ambition as a Club and the limit of the Supporters aspirations (to be better off than Macclesfield, Bury Wigan and Bolton) we should just switch the light off and give the kit to Worsbrough Bridge MW.
Go on then. Without going into debt, breaking FFP or taking loans out, how do you improve vastly on what we are doing? I’m a realist - football is screwed until it’s a relative financial level playing field.....
That's the part that grates. Every season is like starting again. Every season we're still not prepared come October. Every season we are 'not a million miles off competing'. And every season in recent years my interest wanes. The Barnsley I fell in love with all those years ago - making a long round trip to follow - would never have settled for the odd L1 promotion and a modus operandi that constantly screams 'rebuild and reset'. The club I loved had a bit of spunk and ambition. The battling Barnsley tag never bothered me because in the main we we battling for something better. There's currently a defeatest mindset at the moment, board, gaffer, players and us. I just want to enjoy the round trip again knowing we are giving it a go. And aiming up.
Instead of wasting money on garbage, invest it on hungry, young players from the lower leagues. We bought Hourihane, Winnall, Scowen, Yiadom, Potts, Roberts, Pinnock, McDonald and Mawson. What's changed in our recruitment since then?
Tbh I've enjoyed watching my sons game standing in the rain more than recent Barnsley performances. A lot if that is to do with not actually being there but this season has been very pedestrian so far.
