There were reports a few days ago of the Premier League stopping relegation/promotion if they have to bail out EFL clubs as it wouldn’t be fair to the clubs who ultimately get relegated this season to pay for their replacements. Not sure how true it is but it would make this Championship season a total sham.
But McDonalds does not pay their 'food technicians' (as I believe they call their burger flippers) hundreds of thousands of pounds per week forcing smaller businesses such as Albert Street cafe to do the same. It was a rather ridiculous analogy. Nor denying this Government are guilty of muddled thinking but the same is being levelled at most Governments. Nevertheless people are quick to lay the blame at those in charge (in most countries) when the real blame lies with the virus and the lack of action by the Chinese when it first emerged. In your opinion then BJ is guilty of all the cockups in every country in the World regarding the handling of the Coronavirus Pandemic. What would you have done?
I believe that the premier league should definitely pay for the lower leagues due to getting the obscene amounts from the sky subscription payer. Why should the British tax payer bail out irresponsible football clubs when many people have no affiliation to the sport whatsoever?
who are irresponsible? you've tarred all lower league clubs without any justification. the lower and non league clubs arent throwing wads of cash out the door willy nilly. they got no fans attending hence no money!
Hang on, you've obviously never met Mavis or seen her at an away service with her west aisle crew in full effect.
Correct. And what people fail to realise is that Saturday afternoon isn't just about the match. Its the day its self. Meet your mates, few beers bag of chips. Have a laugh and joke. Bump into some one at half time. Have a catch up. Pub after the match. complain about how bad the referee or player X was. Ive not watched more than 25 minutes this season. Saturday I was sat in the pub with my mate having a couple of beers and watching the scores pop up on the big telly. We weren't interested. And we are both season ticket holders. Ive seen a few lads out in town who go home and away. The interest isnt there for the football but it is for the social circle. All of which can be done without spending upwards of £300 on a season ticket. The longer this goes on and the more draconian the rules should fans ever be allowed into a sporting stadia again above Dog & Duck level.. The harder it will be to get renewals.
Going off on slight tangent. Alan Nixon saying this transfer window was so PL teams can still sign from EFL and was done in case EFL teams needed the cash. The cynic in me says it was done so they can lowball the clubs and take advantage.
Aye for the smell of stale piss. I’m hearing incontinant pants might be made compulsory. So you just sit and piss yourself.
Not sure about this. Maybe 30 years ago. Maybe even 10 years ago, but I don’t think if grassroots football went away forever it wouldn’t affect the premier league one iota. Hell, I don’t even know if the EFL going away would have a negative impact, never mind grassroots. In fact if anything it would help. More people to possibly watch on TV.
Sadly I have not signed up for iFollow this season (was my only way of engaging on matchdays) but have not, given my concerns re bandwidth and unreliable coverage as I experienced last year being made worse by more subscribers swamping the internet at match times. You know what? Much as it pains me to say it, I have not missed it.one bit. I have seen the two or three minute 'highlights' on You tube and read the reports but have found better things to do on a Saturday afternoon. There is absolutely no atmosphere or spectacle in an empty stadium and the fact that premier clubs are carrying on as if nothing has happened paying tens of millions for player transfers has highlighted what we already knew. i.e. the FL, FA Sky etc. don't give a sh*t about smaller lower leagues or the millions of fans who follow them. I know it is a slogan but I really mean it ....Love Barnsley FC,hate football'.
