We've played some good stuff and for periods our pressing has put a pretty decent strength Chelsea side in some uncomfortable situations that we've failed to take advantage of. Styles has not looked out of place. They're the positives. We've been ruthlessly punished for pretty much every mistake defensively and there's been loads. We've gone toe to toe with a talented premier league team and been put on our backside plenty of times. We've continued to over play in our own final third. The performance and the scoreline are at odds with each other.
I think that assessment at half time would have been bang on the money. They've basically battered us second half though without getting out of second gear and we've gifted them three goals with schoolboy errors. Missed enough chances for it to be 9-0.
Could have ended 10-5 that game, and then it would have been proper practice match stuff. They missed easy chances, we missed or hit the ball at their keeper. Just goes to show how you miss a natural number nine goalscorer but, having said that, Keiffer would have missed them all as well. We were playing top class opposition whichever way you look at it. We looked good in the first half but maybe Chelsea didn't press us hard enough to stop our triangles and clever flicks. It all unraveled soon enough so let's just draw a big fat line under that and start the proper business again on Saturday.
The gulf between the elite and the rest has never been wider for me. I reckon the top 4 clubs could put 2 teams out each and all finish in the top 8. I honestly believe a European super league, beckons. The sooner the better for me. It’s become impossible to compete. Not only for clubs in the championship yo yoing between championship and premiership. But clubs just making up the numbers. The Southampton and West Brom’s of this world.
Yep in the grand scheme of things it means nothing. The league is where it's at, 3 points on Saturday is a must.
