Anyone on benefits (who works) will now get £500 to isolate for two weeks on top of the statutory sick pay they will get and the other benefits they already get? So someone who works 30 hours a week would ordinarily get £261.6 a week wages plus £7.63 universal credit. Which is £269.23 a week. To self isolate they will get £95.85 a week SSP, £7.63 universal credit and £250 a week boris bonus. Which is £353.48 a week. Or if I've read it incorrectly and it's merely topped up to your maximum wage you'll get your £269.23 If you work 31 hours a week you usually get £270.32, no universal credit. Self isolate and you'll get £95.85 I must be missing something surely?
Don't know. But on the topic of gov handling of COVID i found this interesting. World class track and trace? https://apple.news/AACLyjw_ySgKhu7ZMnw2Asg
From what I read they define low paid as anyone on benefits. I did a government benefit calculator and when I put in 31 hours I wasn't entitled to anything.
The government aren't very good at rules and policies. Case in point stories today about Rishi Sunak wanting to freeze benefits to pay for their Covid mess. The use of food banks and the amount of homeless will go up if that happens. He should be making sure the big corporations paid more tax.
I often wonder what the poorer people who live day to day and can't afford to do a big shop are supposed to do if they test positive? Go home and not eat?
I doubt our a Tory posters on here will read the full article as it is scathing from start to finish. Sadly, very unsurprising. But Labour, but. Corbyn
For last 2 weeks the average of actual daily tests carried out is around 80k. This morning Hancock said they're doing 200k. If you repeat the lie longer enough.....
Don’t care which party the MP is from being paid £100k a year to ‘consult’ to a private firm is just wrong and consulting outside of their duties should be banned for all MP’s.
Thing is more and more people aren't able to book tests so the government can't keep its spin going on this one for long.
True but watch out for another Tory sponsored media story to try and deflect. Something along the lines of migration or an anti EU Brexit negotiations issue. Maybe they say "illegals" are stealing our cod whilst on route and giving them to French fisherman. More likely they'll blame NHS providers, they keep stating its NHS track and trace. Most right minded folk know its really multi national (mates rates) track and trace. See Serco story in recent days.
