True, but Woodrow has snatched at just about every chance since restart of last season. He's a better player than that.

Spot on....i always said if mowatt plays well so do we and vice versa. He is our player of the year for a reason. His Achilles heel is is lack of pace and that would limit his value. Woody is a great footballing forward, who gets all kinds of goals, again lacks pace to demand high fees but a 1 in 3 striker in a poor team i would say is worth £3 to £4 million. However his price will have dropped due to his recent form. Good players dont become bad over night, theres ALWAYS a reason for it.
The "what are they worth" question ...i would argue would be.....what its like to purchase a replacement for both and for that imho would cost us sround £1.5 million and 3 to 4 for a striker.
However as someone stated our board do things a bit differently.

I never belittle anyone, I am highlighting that fans want top dollar for our players, but do not think they are good enough for our team , I am puzzled thats all

Not all teams create multiple chances per game. The best strikers are the ones who need the least amount of chances to score - that's why they fetch big money.

If we're saying we need to be creating more chances so our forwards have more opportunities to score, then surely that negates the view that they're worth big money?

3-5 million isn’t big money. For that you are buying potential rather than the finished article. Ivan Toney probably sets the absolute maximum you could get for potential. The money we got for a Brown is more indicative of Wooodrows value. Any player in that bracket you would expect to need 3 chances to score a goal. You then at championship level go up a notch to Watkins and Milosovic who have a better conversion ratio and can score and create on their own but are valued between 20-30 million. That extra conversion to chances is what makes them 5-10 times more expensive than say Woodrow.

in our terms Woodrow is probably worth good money but at the same time is probably as good as we are going to get at this level without a massive stroke of fortune. If I were say Forest or Cardiff and had the money I would take a punt on Woodrow probably safe in the knowledge you could get a decent return if he failed and you sold him. If I were a Norwich I’d expect better and not be looking at him.

I see what you're saying. I think your earlier point was the best one though. He isn't a lone striker so realistically how many teams are going to be looking at him? 'Home' supporters always value players higher than the buying clubs and with Woodrow I think we've probably got as good as we can expect within our budget - but that doesn't mean he walks in to another Champ team as the star striker. I'd love him to sign a contract extension, stay, and we figure out how to get the best out of him.

I genuinely think that would be best for all parties particularly if we agreed a reasonable release clause.

Gerhard needs to earn his money on this one. Rome wasn't built in a day, but it's obvious that becoming harder to beat as almost rendered the best striker we've had since Shipperley (and Nardiello) useless. How do we now start tweaking things from an attacking perspective to get the best out of him. The talent is there.

I bet Cauley still hits double figures this season.

yes it’s a hard thing to balance but we have to both keep the defensively solidity while getting the best out of Woodrow. Glad it’s GS having to do this because speaking as an idiot of the internet I certainly couldn’t.
