They were all at it, and the ref bought it every time and gave them a free kick. Including the one 20 seconds before they scored when Woodrow got pulled up for a "foul". Anyway, we move on to two away games next week. I fancy us to get at least one positive result, as we'll have more space to exploit going forward. Feel free to bump this when I'm wrong
The referee was dire. Bradley and Pearson worked out in the first 10 minutes that all they had to do was drop to the floor and they'd have a comfortable afternoon. Collins was very lucky to be on the pitch too; the tackle that earned him a yellow card was his 3rd yellow card challenge, and it was by far the worst one. But, we can't make excuses for our lacklustre performance, particularly going forward. Jordan Williams said on radio Sheffield last night that their game plan was to knock the ball long, and ours was to play football. Our game plan didn't work and theirs did. And it was the same last season, against any side that didn't try to play football. We're a good footballing team, one of the best in this league. But we're bullied far too easily by anyone with any physicality.
That dive past Ritzy in the first half, on the bye line, was laughable. Ritzy stitched him up brilliantly to put himself clear to run along the line or play a killer ball into the six yard box but Pearson's dramatic dive past our player earned HIM a free kick. One of many truly pathetic decisions by a man who should have his whistle taken away immediately.
They have the perfect snivelling little s**t on the touch line to guide them. Jones is right up near the top of the most obnoxious football managers ever seen, in the company of the likes of Harris, Warnock etc etc
To be fair to Pearson, I don't think it was a dive. I think he tried to shoulder charge Ritzmaier, and Ritzmaier telegraphed it. It wasn't a foul by Marcel either like, but I'm not sure it was a dive.
Maybe not a deliberate dive but certainly an attempt to foul our man. Ritzy played it brilliantly but the fool with the whistle saw it differently
Oh aye, I certainly agree that the referee made the wrong call, and Ritzmaier was incredibly unlucky.
I don’t think Pearson dived either. He tried to play the man and missed. Terrible decision by the ref - and it is not the first time that official has been poor. Fair play to Luton though.
I remember the ref finally telling a Luton player on the right to take a throwi-in 15 Yards further back (he’d been at it all match) - the player went back but did a run up from the throw & did it from the original position - ref did nothing (except make a fool of himself yet again
Yes I saw that and it was clear as day what was going to happen and, sure enough, the player just started walking up the line before running and releasing from where he was in the first place. The thing is though that just about every other team in the world does it, and gets away with it. The exception is.......Barnsley!
Guessing he spent the end of last season falling over like a little kid then. Ref was laughable some Luton fans had cheek to complain about him being crap for them on twitter too.
I'd seen the video of him in the Aussie league where he was mic'd up, and he seemed decent. But you're right, he's had a few bad games in charge of us. Didn't he ref the Stoke game at home last season? We had a bad referee that day, and I'm sure it was him.
Nah that was Jeremy Simpson. Jarred Gillett reffed in the following games last season. Forest away. Lost 1-0. Bristol at home 2-2. Let Mowatt off with snapping a Bristol City player in half. Millwall away. Won 2-1 Leeds away lost 1-0.
Ah fair enough. I remember him having a bad game. It must have been that Bristol City game (barring the decision against Mowatt), as I didn't go to the others.
To be fair he comes across decent in his post match interview. Iv not heard anything from him previously so iv no opinion on him really.
Just watch his antics on the touch line when the cameras are on him. The end of our match at Luton last season was a good example.
