THE BOSS ON LUTON DEFEAT Interviews Speaking after our 1-0 defeat against Luton Town on Saturday afternoon, Gerhard Struber said the Reds lacked physicality. Continue reading on the official site...
Until the vision for the squad and future going forward are more aligned between the owners/board and our manager, nothing majors going to change. We seem to be a football/profit academy, not a football club.
I just think it’s a case of the coach having to adapt his gameplay a little when we play the more ‘physical teams’ It’s not a coincidence that our worst performances and results have come against those types of teams.
So whose fault is the lack of physicality in the squad. Who do we blame for signing underdeveloped shorties?
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and maybe having Halme in the middle of the park yesterday might have helped us who knows but certainly no need to panic because we know we are a better side than that performance showed.
Which side should he have played, to overcome the physical opponents? Just asking, because I don't see us having a stack of physical players to play.
Appo halme would have given us much needed height. He could have played instead of Ritzmaier with styles wing back and allowing Mowatt to get forward. Adeboyejo was definitely worth coming off the bench instead of two lightweight strikers too.
Halme not in squad though, suspect he's injured after playing 2 games for Finland U21s last week. The changes you speak of look like they would try and give us more creativity moving forward, not physicality. So what else could Struber have done?
I think when he's lacking in physicality he has to adjust his tactics. The formation we play leaves large exposed areas which is fine sometimes but when you're losing out physically as well you have to be tighter. Should have played a more compact formation as three lightweight strikers and three centre backs leaves us too short in the middle which showed as we didn't win anything all day.
Certainly if Plan A isn't working revert to Plan B etc. etc. This system is able to revert to a 3-5-2 when we don't have the ball. Which we didn't do much yesterday. So is that Struber's fault or the players fault?
Managers fault. He picks the players and picks certain ones regardless so yes it's his fault if they don't perform. To an extent
He could’ve played Thomas or Palmer to have more of a 3-5-2 formation. We looked a bit better once we had Palmer, Styles and Mowatt on the pitch together. Same can be said for Tuesday. Warnock won’t be letting his centre halves be harried when he knows that they can be more direct and bully us.
