We need a big lump up top before the next match. Been there done it nasty strong target man. Unlucky today close knit game that Luton did edge and their goal was a superb smashed and grab finish that sat up perfectly and fell to Collins nicely Woodrow needs to be played up top and not midfield. We are desperate for a big lump target man up top. chalk today to memory and crack on to the next game. still needs 2/3 signings to strengthen fridge freezer just head it across the goal And you would have netted ! ffs Shitzmaer is a waste of a shirt he needs binning keep the faith reds x
13 months ago we had one who played well with Woodrow but we decided to sell and not replace him. Had it not been for Wigan's insolvency the decision would have cost us out place in the division.
Evening Mansfield I agree we desperately need a big tough tough target man up top. We are physically weak and will get steam rolled by physical teams. need a big target man ba****d before next game
I think we had a chance to sign lyndon dykes and did all but get the deal over the line by not offering the extra bit of cash which we then received by selling brown he scored on his debut for qpr and on his second cap for scotland i think we've missed a trick there
I don’t disagree with this - however how effective one would be without an extra link between midfield and the strikers I’m not sure. That’s the critical part we’re missing. What’s Istvan Ferenczi doing these days???? Lol.
Unfortunately the majority of our strike force are not tall enough. In fact a couple of them are likely to have turn ups on their underpants.! Agree with what's being said, it's time to reinstate the big man little man set up. Trouble is, there are twenty three other teams in the league also probably looking for proven striker(s) to complete their squads. I personally believe that overloading the squad with a plethora of foreign players is not the answer. We really ought to be scouring the English market and look to bring in two or three additions to the squad who have experience of playing in the Premiership or the EFL. We don't want to be constantly flirting with relegation. It's mentally and morale sapping and the squad and us supporters surely deserve better.
Cauley played up front for the majority of the game, with Simoes in the 10. Late on, he dropped deep with Frieser and Schmidt up top. Same time Styles went wide left. Today was awful. No argument needed. Hopefully a rarity.
Shows how it can appear different to different people doesn't it. Woodrow looked extremely deep all the game for me and Simone's was often the furthest forward of everyone. On our general play I'm just really worried that we are very much a square peg round hole team at the moment and I can't really see how that can change quickly
Trust me, I know the exact team, the shape etc. Cauley was up top with Chaps, and then Simoes in behind. Of course, they naturally shift around, and Cauley loves to drop deep regardless. I don't think they were an issue per se today, I just felt we were flat from the get-go. Really under-par, lethargic, surprised maybe by Luton's long-ball, shïthouse routine? Bad day anyway. But rare in the last few months. Let's hope for better. It'll need to be.
Oh I know you know the actual lineup and formation, I'm just saying that it's never how it seems to really play out if that makes sense.
Dykes would’ve wanted a five figure sum per week, and I doubt we would’ve been willing to pay it. The club have a decision to make. They can either hope for the best with what we have now, or bring in two or three players that are going to have an impact in the championship, which would give us a good chance of establishing ourselves in the league but at a cost of the club losing money. The latter isn’t a model that the owners have ever claimed to want to follow, and some on here have referred to it as cheating when other clubs have done it...
We might have thought we could negotiate a salary that would keep him in our wage structure and be higher than what he was on a livingstone, but once other championship clubs were interested that was never going to happen. I never felt we were likely to sign Dykes. Same now applies to Whiteman. I don’t know much about this Croatian striker, but my guess is we’ll sign Aitchison and be pretty underwhelmed.
So at least we can claim some sort of moral high ground and our directors a nice wedge when we get relegated. Mate, these owners do not care what league we are in. Success on the field int their business plan for us
I find the whole thing very confusing. My assumption is that we bid on players who are earning less at the moment than we're willing to pay. But anybody who's got a half-decent agent is then going to be offered to pretty much any other Championship club, and once they get involved we'll always get outbid on wages almost immediately. I have no doubt that we were willing to pay Dykes a hell of a lot more than he was earning in Scotland, but we're never going to compete with QPR. My main concern is that we're being used as a bargaining chip. I imagine agents getting in touch with the rest of the Championship and saying "Barnsley have a great spreadsheet and they're interested in Dave Striker. They'll pay him x, but that's the maximum they'll run to and it's still only halfway up your bracket. Why not give him a shot for a bit more?"
