If we insist on comparing transfer fees, at least use fair comparisons. I keep reading that 'if Ollie Watkins/Ivan Toney is worth X, then Brown is worth Y'. How can you compare the value of two 20 goal strikers against a winger, who's been played out of position and hasn't scored anywhere near that amount of goals. I love Brown, don't get me wrong, I think he's a fantastic young player and will be sorely missed. But he's not a striker, and he's certainly not a striker in the mould of Watkins and Toney. He doesn't fit our system, and I think selling him isn't too detrimental. I do think IF the £2m being quoted is correct, it is a bit low. But let's be honest, the media in Stoke are always going to make out they've got a good deal aren't they? I'll be surprised if its less than £5m.
Surprised if it’s less than £5 million? Getting that much would possibly be the biggest shock in BFC transfer history.
He's a great fit for our system - but he's not the striker that fits our system. Hopefully though we will sign one - if not we're stuffed losing Brown with no forward player to press that high in his absence.
You're right. Maybe we should ask to switch league positions with them. If they were to gamble a little bit more, take the hit every now and again and hold onto their star players for a season or two longer, they might become an established Championship club.
I suppose that's the point I was trying to make, you've just put it a bit better than me. I think he'd be great in a front three. I do think we have players who do like to play that high press though, and Struber has made no secret about trying to find more players who fit that model.
I don't think it's the end of the world if we lose brown but I would argue that he actually fits our system perfectly. His work rate, his ability in the air and the fact that he can pick out his strike partner means he's ideal for the almost split striker system which Struber employs. Which is probably the reason he's started in that position for all but one league game since Struber took over.
The thing is, and this isn't a dig at either of you, but people will believe what they want anyway. I can almost guarantee the fee will be undisclosed. But I'll go to the pub tomorrow with my mates, and they'll be saying how we've had our pants pulled down, despite not knowing the actual fee.
I certainly can't knock his work rate, and he is good in the air. I suppose the issue then lies with who he's partnered with, because we haven't scored nearly enough goals since just before the lockdown. I do like Brown on the right of a front 3, because he's good at pulling the ball back, or drilling the ball across the box. I do however think he's replaceable at the minute, but he does have the potential to be much better.
It wont be 5 million I can put my house on that I'd say 3million maybe a little more with a sell on. I already know tomorrows press release from.bfc will read " WE HAVE RELUCTANTLY AGREED TO SELL JACOB BROWN TO STOKE CITY AFTER THE PLAYER EXPRESSED HIS DESIRE TO LEAVE, WE WISH HIM ALL THE BEST, THE FEE IS UNDISCLOSED, WE WILL INVEST ALL OF THE UNDISCLOSED FEE BACK INTO REPLACEMENTS WHICH WILL ALSO BE UNDISCLOSED SIGNINGS"
But if the fee is undisclosed, why is everyone saying we're being short changed again? The fee, as you say is always undisclosed, so how does everyone know we're not getting what our players are worth? This is what frustrates me every time we sell a player. There's this bashing of the club every time, when nobody actually knows what we're receiving.
I would agree we do look a little short of goals. But I think the midfield also need to chip in here. But yes, if Brown wants to be a traditional striker in a less fluid set up he does need to sort out his finishing. But if he's does he'll be some player. As he does seem to have the intelligence to get into the right positions for goalscoring opportunities. But lacks composure. I think what we'll miss most is his workrate and pressing. The little cameo from Frieser suggests that he could potentially fill this role.
And barnsley FC only have themselves to blame for that. Remember that we are the club who once had the chief executive state that a fee was undisclosed because if barnsley fans knew how little we had sold John stones for they would be angry.
The thing is with Peterboro , people bang on about what a good model they are , no one has their pants down ,but hold on , where does it get them ? How many seasons since the turn of the century have they actually spent in the Championship ?
But should we make the assumption that the current ownership/chief exec will make the same mistakes? Because if that's the case, I fully expect 4 tickets for my season ticket, if we draw Liverpool away in the Cup.
Well the current owners have not just continued but have dramatically increased the policy of keeping any information from supporters so yes I believe so. I also believe that like respect trust is earned and the trust in their business abilities cannot be earned without them showing you that they can be trusted which they refuse to do.
Why do people say he’s been played out of position? He’s played more up front than out wide & spent almost all his time at Guiseley & in the U23’s playing as a forward. If anything he was played out of position as a winger to fill a gap when Potts was sold. Why can’t he just be like many players comfortable in playing more than one position for us just like Marley Watkins did
