... a scientists comments reported by the BBC re the latest rapidly rising infection rates, contains two important paragraphs for all those who think the advice re masks and social distancing does not apply to them...

"Where case numbers rise initially in the younger parts of the population they do in turn filter through and start to give elevated rates of disease and hospital admissions in the older age groups, and we know that then becomes a serious public health problem," he said.

"The fact that 17 to 21-year-olds are not becoming ill means they are lucky, but they also forget because the disease is not severe for them that they are potent spreaders."

Having a break at Robin Hood's Bay in a caravan, all pubs etc are covid compliant. However quite a few businesses have closed at Whitby, they've had an outbreak amongst staff majority are in the young adult bracket 18-24.
We were going to Whitby but will give it a miss. Scarborough North bay is also extremely good for covid counter measures.
So can't complain I'm getting my walks on Marine drive and walks to Boggle Hole.

We went to Whitby a couple of weeks ago, initially starting up at the Abbey things were fine, good control by English heritage and not too many people.

Then we went down into the town for some fish and chips. We got straight back in our cars and left.

There were thousands there, it was rammed. It felt wrong, like it was overrun by ants. No social distancing was possible and not many wearing masks.

Was speaking to staff in Fylingdales Inn they said they'd heard horror stories about Whitby and seafront at Scarborough South bay.
Thankfully only booked in for meals at same pub and three Jolly Sailors at Burniston (which also seems to have brilliant measures in place.) Most our walks down to the beach etc are off the beaten track, so we shouldn't be too close to civilisation lol!

We were at Cayton Bay last week, South Bay no distancing, few masks, back to normal. Same in Filey when we went to our usual chippy. I think folk are becoming more and more complacent. We’re doing everything we can At work in distancing, disinfecting, daily temperature checks at work but there’s no control of how folk behave out of work and thats a big worry for us.

You've hit the nail on the head, that's how this thing will make a comeback. It's not employer's and places of work at this time that's the issue. Common sense and alertness only seems to apply during work hours.

Ive stopped going to Whitby, it's a very unpleasant place now down in the main part.
Even a couple of years ago it was completely unbearable, crowds everywhere, and this was in winter ! Shoulder to shoulder, jostling, screaming kids, not my scene.
I cannot imagine what it is like there at the moment, hoards of geordies etc boozing and troughing and not giving a flying f.uck.
Such a lovely town spoiled by people.
