Probably as he realised he'd only be a back up to Callum Styles at Barnsley! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54032101
I didn’t think for a second that he’d leave them this summer. It will be interesting to see what happens in January though. If he doesn’t sign a contract extension, I believe he’ll be out of contract in the Summer of 2021 so either Barca will try and cash in or he’ll agree a pre-contract with someone.
Looks like he's played the political game and pussied out of proving himself in a different environment. Shame.
How has he pussied out? He thought he could leave and therefore stated his intentions. But Barca said that'll cost you or someone else 700 mil. Which no one could afford. He decided he didn't want to take the club to court to argue his case (which couldve got really ugly), so said he will stay another year. Also being one of the best player of all time, if not the best, I don't think he has anything to prove to anyone. He's been a bit of a **** about the whole thing, with refusing to train etc. And I'm sure he'll stay if they get neymar or someone next year. However I don't think for one bit think he was scared about proving himself elsewhere.
He’s proved he will only ever play in Spain in a pretty poor league. Ronaldo tried new challenges Messi was a one trick pony in a fairly average league.
A one trick pony? Really? Scores with both feet and his head. Scored fantastic free kicks and played in a variety of different positions. Also got 26 assists last season so he can set them up as well as score them. As far from a one trick pony you can find.
He moved from the prem to an "average league" (in your opinion) when he was at the top of his game. He then moved from Madrid to an easier to a team who win the league year after year. It's a nonsense argument.
I don't understand the question. Ronaldo is amazing. However to say he proved himself in different leagues and is therefore a better player is daft. He moved from real to a team who win the league every year. In a league which is a lot slower paced than la Liga and lacks the same quality. It was a smart move for his career. But it proves nothing. Also Messi's record against English teams suggest he might be ok in prem. I know I come across as a Messi fan-boy. But that's prob cos I am. But for a good reason. He beats Ronaldo on almost every statistic.
Said on the Sports bulletin earlier today he's prepared to commit for one last season with Barcelona and after that, if given the choice he'd like to play for Manchester City in the Premiership. He will be thirty four years old in June 2021. How long he could play in such a high tempo environment at that age would be interesting.
