Currently binge watching this on Netflix, if you haven't seen it then it’s well worth a watch, synergies with our club and our town there are some good people up there. The transition from a club bankrolled by a wealthy owner to one striving to be self funding is a reality many clubs are going to have to face up to.
They all good Man City, Spurs, Leeds. The NFL ones are the best, the facilities they have make Man City and Barca look like Sunday league set ups.
It’s made me realize how much I miss going to Oakwell with my mates, taken it for granted for so long like a great many other things.
Watched it when lockdown first started, it was great to have some insight into their club. I thought season 1 was better than season 2. The second season felt a bit rushed in my opinion. Some players certainly didn’t come out of it well like Rodwell and Grabban.
Agree, greedy bastetds. The blokes that took over seem like good lads who really tried. The reactions of the fans reminds me being back at the Well, can’t wait to get back.
Sister and her husband John( the Black Cats fan) who now live in Walsall, have been staying in a hotel in Wakefield for a couple of days. They called round earlier and whilst the girls went out for a coffee and some much needed retail therapy, this afternoon John and I sat through two full editions of "Sunderland Till I Die." He was impressed with the content of the programmes and the forthright views of the Clubs Consultant/ part owner Charlie Methven. Have to say , when it got to the part where the latter went into the details of the income versus the unsustainable levels of expenditure, our John was literally gobsmacked. He didn't know that the Club had paid the thick end of £7 million to simply cover the interest on the mountain of debt that the Club had accrued under their former owner Ellis Short. It now looks an increasingly difficult and hard road back to their former glories and with the squad they have got at this present time, it's far from given that they will automatically gain promotion to the Championship in the upcoming season.
Echoes of Wigan from a financial perspective they’ve a great stadium/set up and some wonderful fans we’ve a lot in common with them I feel, I’ve just watched them lose the play off final and seen folk in tears. We’ve been there as well. Apparently the owner has stopped going to games and is trying to sell due to the abuse he’s been getting.
It must be really disheartening when you are putting your money into a Club and giving it your undivided attention 24/7, when through no direct fault of yours, the fans deem your best not to be good enough and turn on you and your family. I once read a harrowing piece by the former Chair of Manchester City the late Peter Swales. He got absolute pelters from City fans due to the ongoing success of Man Utd under Ferguson and he therefore felt compelled to leave when death threats were issued to himself, his wife and children. He once admitted that leaving City broke his heart and three years after he quit, he died of a massive heart attack in his early sixties. Football is a passionate game, but when death threats are made, it really is time to call it a day
Like any Consultant Helen. Choc full of buzzwords and ********. They are there to inspire and hopefully motivate. Seems to think he's star of the show and has put himself centre stage. Just watched the episode where the lost the Checkatrade trophy to Portsmouth and then the play off final to Charlton. Feel for their long suffering fans having suffered disappointment throughout my time supporting Barnsley.
I suffered at the hands of a similar type who bought into the firm I used to work for. Intelligent but no idea how to get the best out of people. His management style was one of the main reasons I left, 5 years on and hardly any of the office staff are still there citing him as the reason but the owner wants out and hopes the bloke will buy it so he’ll do nothing about him. On Sunderland fans they’re just like us from similar backgrounds with similar stories. I really enjoyed it and wish their fans well.
Loved both series mainly because they didn't get promoted. Hopefully a season 3 will arrive. My favourite part was them saying Grigg was worth I think 500k before agreeing 3 million as they sold their star striker so Wigan knew they were desperate. The moral of the story being get someone in before you let someone go so you don't get fleeced by another club.
My favourite bits are, in the first series when Ethan Pinnock scores the winner at the Stadium of Light, and in the 2nd when Conor Chaplin puts Coventry 5-4 up
