Should be best pundit available. Don't just employ someone from Tesco because nobody from fresh departent has anybody to look up to.
That sounds better. I'm sure they would be suing for wrongful dismissal if they had been sacked and not reached an amicable agreement.
The best from Jeff Stelling? “The subs name is Heinz, you’ll never guess his squad number.” 57? “No, 42!” Brilliant!!!
Absolutely agree with him there. I think everyone knows where I stand on black lives matter and the automatic assumption that things are racist when it's a white guy doing something to a black guy so on the flip side I've got to say I didn't even notice that all the released pundits were white. Never entered my head. Why? Because it's not important. If anyone thinks they were removed because of their skin colour then they're absolutely barmy. They got rid of them because the show has gone stale, because they are out of touch with a modern audience and to be honest they weren't exactly behaving in the most professional manner on the show getting all excited and screaming in the background. Add that to the fact that they haven't played the modern game and it makes perfect sense to replace them with someone who has. Someone who can comment on football like it is now not like it was in the 1980s. I could understand people complaining about ageism maybe, they've got rid of some older faces to undoubtedly replace them with younger. I'd get it if that was the argument. But that isn't the argument is it. People have just made an automatic assumption that their skin colour was the problem and that is absolute ********. I can't say this for certain but I'd bet my house that if Phil Thompson was black he'd still have been let go.
I’d written this is a reply to someone earlier but then my phone battery died and so didn’t get to post it: ‘They’re just all so old though! It makes sense to have footballers that people can actually remember playing otherwise they could just be the old guy down the road for all anyone young would know.‘ I definitely agree that I think they’ve gone because they just aren’t relevant anymore. They were undoubtedly hired in the first place as they were ex players but loads of people won’t have seen or will barely remember their playing days anymore and their experiences won’t be any relevant to today’s players. It was like when I overheard 6th formers at school talking about going to uni and I was going to share my (suitable) experiences then realised it’s 14 years since I was a ‘fresher’ and didn’t bother as they wouldn’t care less and whatever I remembered probably isn’t relevant to being a fresher in this day and age anyway. I do think Soccer Sunday may also take this chance to diversify and I still maintain that that is a good thing.
Thought it was ironic when Ian Wright was getting his knickers in a twist about it, saying stuff like , it happens been around for so long etc. He's been talking total bo.llocks for years and getting away with it.
It was just as successful when they had Frank McLintock, Rodney Marsh and George Best etc on. They were all let go (maybe not george, bless him), and replaced with the likes of Le Tissier and so on. It freshened it up, and people didn’t switch off. They won’t now.
Love watching Gillette soccer Saturday when not at Oakwell. I hope the new team are entertaining otherwise the viewing figures will drop, it's nothing to do with age, sex, colour it's to do with are you going to enjoy watching the people on it. I watched the midweek shows sometimes but it wasn't as good as the Saturday main one, so it didn't hold my attention and I just clicked on then to see the scores. I'll give the new Saturday format a good go and hope it's decent otherwise its a shame to see a top programme fail. Geoff and Kammy are a top double act on the show.
Seems the rumour that he's thinking of leaving is true and he hasn't made his mind up yet. I wouldn't be surprised to see another channel pick up Jeff and his mates to rival the Sky show.
Leaving aside the race and gender issues, Sky Soccer Saturday is all about the bantz. I'm not surprised to hear that Jeff Stelling is considering his future, as I don't see the whole thing working without those characters. If one goes (or three in this case), they all need to go in my opinion. A completely fresh start and different type of show.
Whereas for me the way over the top banter was the biggest reason I didn't enjoy the show. Couldn't stand how you'd get them acting like school boys screaming and shouting in the studio. In fact no not schoolboys, they reminded me very much of MPs in the houses of commons
Same here. I really like Stelling and his presenting style. I’d be interested in a show with him and actual pundits that know what they’re talking about...
I've seen it in the past, but don't have Sky, so watch Final Score. It isn't my cup of tea either, but that's what has made it popular.
