Bit of a push to say he’s signed four times. Technically correct I guess but they’ve only really made permanent the move he made in January. He and them are obviously a good fit. Obviously didn’t really work out for him here - his dad’s mouth didn’t help and we had Yiadom and Cavare at the same time. Good luck to him, he’s ok but I hope he plays right back against Callum Styles running at him. I don’t see him making Wycombe a particularly strong defensive unit, though that said whilst I wouldn’t play him over Ludewig, I’m not convinced Jordan Williams is a lot better.
Song was great.. nowt against JM.. but we've had way better players here that's never had a song.. he was hardly ever first choice
After the lock down , like Anderson , Williams was superb & played a big part in keeping the clean sheets that were so vital towards our survival , I am puzzled why the fans appear to have done a " U turn " with Anderson but Williams is still a target for cynicism
Most underrated player in the squad. I think he’s brilliant. So versatile. 7/10 every week. And he’s 20-years-old. Reight laiker.
McCarthy's insistence on letting every cross into the box was so bizarre. Almost to the point where I thought Hecky had told him to let them in for some reason. Really bad
totally agree with this. Jordan is a capable and consistent defender and good enough for this league. especially when he breaks forward from a deep lying defensive position (when we play a back 3/5) it confuses the opposition. it reminds me of how chris wilder playswith his back 3. JW is another great example of how we need to be patient with these players as they grow and develop.
I’m no cynic, all I meant was that I didn’t rate JW as being a better right back than McCarthy - not that he’s a terrible player. Just comparing like for like in that position. McCarthy is ok, and JW is no more than ok at right back. As mentioned by some above, he’s looked better as a cb in a back three. I think he’s a better defender than going forward, but he’s obviously pretty good on the ball compared to a lot of out and out centre backs so it suits his attributes to be a ball playing one - and can do that job on the left or right of whoever is in the middle you’d think. JW was good after lockdown, though not in my view as improved as Mads. I imagine whilst Diaby remains unavailable and Halme is preferred further forward, we may go for a back three of both of those with Sollbauer, and i’d have no complaints at that. I certainly don’t think we ought to revert to a back four just now; but if we did, I’m not convinced he’s the best bet in either full back position.
Don't think Williams is good enough personally, we need better if we are to avoid another relegation battle but it's all about opinions I suppose. Obviously Struber sees something in him same as he does ritzmaier.
Sometimes, it’s also about trust and execution of plan. Cavare was an example of where he couldn’t always be trusted to stick to the game plan (regardless of whether he was playing well or not). I like Jordan Williams - just seems like an honest lad who is growing month by month ins confidence and ability. He knows what he has, and stick to the game plan. 11 fit lads, working rally hard, sticking to a good game plan and with a bit of skill and luck will always do well. For all of Stoke’s quality, they didn’t have what we had last season.
