Never said it was racist, just highlighting the hypocrisy of posters such as he who will knock Islam and bang on about Muslim grooming gangs but yet praise their barbaric punishment regimes, and probably say at the same time how we shouldn't be bringing Sharia law to the UK.
I don’t think that the death penalty acts as a deterrent, more of a means of providing justice and retribution for those affected. In the case of the Dubai child rapist he won’t rape a child again. I referred to the manslaughter convictions of three criminal itinerants who dragged that poor PC behind their truck and killed him. His family and friends haven't seen justice done in my opinion.
Anti neither, I was simply reporting what I’d been told. Apparently there are a lot of pakistani men in Dubai who go there to work in the hotels etc
Apologies. I think I take the same view just from a different angle. I see the irony you're referring to but think penalties in this country could be harsher for certain crimes.
Equally there are few too few of them to effectively and sensibly police our towns and cities. We seem to have a very strange sense of priorities in the UK. I know a number of serving and retired bobbies and to a man they all have my great respect.
Thank you SD, it’s about the punishment fitting the crime. I’ve read today about a pakistani woman who falsely claimed £100k in benefits but was only given a suspended sentence. Where’s the deterrent ?? Where’s the justice ? Aside from the 100k she’s already had out of us how much did it cost in police and court time ?
I’m afraid I lost any respect I had for the police when they abandoned the principle of impartiality to genuflect to protestors supporting BLM. Or in allowing Colsons statue to be toppled, or allowing extinction rebellion protestors to block off the highway. They are there to uphold the law, not choose to when it suits. Unfortunately on the occasions when they choose to they seem to be wasting their time as the courts are far too lenient.
The death penalty is more expensive, doesn't work as a deterrent and runs the risk of executing people later found to be innocent. I can't ever agree with the state taking the lives of its citizens. There's no justification apart from revenge which is not a value to be promoted.
I guess your respect for our constabulary must have been at a low ebb when the BNP were running riot through Rotherham a few years back as well
Never at a lower ebb than now, the law should be applied equally. Interestingly I’ve never seen any images of the police taking the knee at Orgreave
Interestingly you mentioned about losing respect for the police for abandoning impartiality about certain protestestors but not when policing industrial disputes like the Miner’s strike and Orgreave in particular.
Other than work, walking the dog, lads football, going out for the odd meal and oakwell if it opens again, we've decided to stay in our own home garden bubble as we've no interest in going in to town shopping, out boozing or gathering with crowds best days are bbq and drinks in garden with friends and family. You find life is so much easier, less grief less nobheads.
I don't think Dubai would be a very enjoyable experience. Where the kids rat out foreign nationals to their mothers who then call the police. Some of the stories... kissing your partner on the mouth (shock!) in a restaurant: 1 month jail sentence and a £200 fine for drinking alcohol. Another 'kissing' incident on the beach where the man claimed he was giving CPR? A year in jail for both. So a kiss/CPR in a public place equals jail time. Bizarre. And the stone slab thing? I mean it's a deterrent but what if youd been wrongly accused and then publicly flogged and stone slabbed with a crane - imagine that round the back of the Alhambra? Youd think with all their riches they could educate the masses before it gets to that.
Its not for me either, covid permitting lottery win world tour (round 1) would be Nepal, Japan, New Zealand by motorbike, Bolivia, USA, Canada.
