Great view of Jupiter and Saturn tonight, just look slightly to the east of due south. Jupiter very bright, Saturn further to the left and not nearly so bright. Fascinating!
I only found out what they were a few weeks ago. I woke up and there were two incredibly bright stars in the sky looking south. I never even knew you could see them with the naked eye but they've been amazing with every clear night. Fascinating.
Got it. Thanks. Amazing! Jupiter is a lot bigger than I expected, and as bright as my neighbours security light. Hang about...
Not the best quality, Saturn on the left, Jupiter on the right. My phone camera has distorted the planets so much that I've now founded the Flat Saturn Society.
Use binoculars and you will see up to four moons of Jupiter. Saturn needs at least a small telescope to see the rings. If you look over the east you'll see a bright red star rising - this is Mars - on it's way to a close approach to the Earth this October.
10 x 50s are fine - even 7 x 50s will do the job. Shouldn't need a tripod for light 10x binos, but any higher and things can get shaky. If it wasn't for Jupiter's glare the moons would be naked eye objects from a dark place.
Thought that read Glazers....thought it was about Man Utd owners...maybe the third party...they want move over to the right side of the Pennines and do a ground share...
