Are there any stats that show how many passes we manage in possession before giving it away? The difference between the each stat would be quite interesting
I'm assuming there will be somewhere! I'm doing a university module in statistics and football in September, so I'm going to try and do a bit of regular analysis next season.
Disagree. It's wise not to read too much into it, but it shows that in this one respect we play the exact system that the club and coach demand exceptionally well. Players have been signed to play in a pressing system, and presumably through a combination of their skills and good coaching they're one of the top teams in Europe at doing exactly that. There will be other statistics which make it clear what we're doing wrong (and they'll perhaps be more interesting to analyse), but as one part of a whole package this is very valuable. If nothing else it shows which parts of our game we don't need to concentrate on quite so much.
Is there an algorithm that can accurately predict how many times I’ve to bollock the kids before they start to put their ******* shoes away?
Obviously, results are what matter, but I think this is very impressive. It's all about adding the firepower in to turn draws against eg Luton into wins. It's very clear though that the club has a plan, and it's stats like these that demonstrate it.
Before the Brentford game they showed some stats for us compared to the rest of the Championship. 4th most shots, 5th most on target, 5th on chances created, 6th on average possession. 19th on goals conceded and 23rd on errors leading to goals.
6 teams from the championship on that list. Doesn't take into account quality of the other team to be able to keep the ball, which I would guess is comparatively low in the championship than the big leagues. So easier to disrupt
I’m not expressing an opinion, just quoting the statistics. Very good at some things, very bad at others . I’d like to think it’s easier to cut out errors than it is to address other issues, but I don’t know enough about it to comment.
I'd be very interested to see "chances" defined and subanalysed into categories. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see us leading the league at shots from 40 yards, 30 yards and 20 yards. It also wouldn't surprise me to see the least number of headed chances and the least number of chances in the 6 yard box. We have some good strikers. The quality of our chances has often been poor.
