We need to get rid of the cheap set of pans from the market that never come out of the drawer and use the money to buy a lovely griddle pan and Wok from M&S that we'll never stop using :D

I would prefer ownership of the land to stay as it is....the council owning 50% stops owners selling it off as has happened elsewhere.

And there lies the dilemma - keep things as they are but forego any significant improvement, or give the owners their head and see what theyre really made of.

Agree fully. The last thing i want at present is this particular set of owners getting their hands on the ground and land.

I don't think that really addresses the issue tbh...as far as I'm concerned owners buy the club...if it comes with the land, fair enough...there's nothing anyone can do about it...but while the land remains out of their control they can't use it to speculate.
The land is the crown jewel...holding that goes a long way to guarantee the long term future of the club, I'm not particularly critical of these owners, but neither do I trust them unreservedly. Even if they were 100% trustworthy ( from a fan point of view) they won't be around forever and the next people in might be the kind of shysters that Wigan have got...in which case every asset is likely to be squandered.

    Jeez.
    Wrong on so many levels.
Can’t you understand the club’s strategy of bringing young players on ???
Not all of them will be successful.

Thomas, Radlinger, Schmidt are all good players.
Pinnilos and Cavare did a job for us in the 1st Division.
Wilks is a good player that just didn’t fit in.
Bahre and Ritzmaier could have been decent signings if they were braver in front of goal.
Given time Green could be a very exciting player depending on how much he wants to knuckle down and work.

Simon Davey said 30% of signings don’t work.
I think the percentage at Barnsley is much lower than that at the moment.

You are spot on , I am slightly bemused as to why some of our fan base have not grasped the financial mess the world is going through & will be for the forseable future due to the pandemic. Last season , we averaged 14,000 ,but with the likelihood of playing for a long time behind closed doors & relying solely on season ticket sales for matchday revenue , then the budget will have to be drastically cut . It is obvious that our owners business plan does not include their personal wealth but remember that their portfolio"s will no doubt be taking a big hit & to sum up , its a totally different ball game than it was 12 months ago & if people think we are going to be flashing the cheque book willy nilly , then they are in cuckoo land .

We've bid £1.8 million for Dykes. There clearly is money to spend.

I have also read that but not from any club source , it could well be true but you know your football & you will know that it is silly season for rumours . Personally, I treat rumours with a pinch of salt especially with social media being a vehicle for wind ups .

The problem is in the football business, there are very limited ways to accumulate from the cash you have speculated.

There is going up(only 3 of the 24 teams will achieve this), selling players(basically a gamble, as their value is subjective) or increasing gate receipts/merch sales. 9 times out of 10 a normal business will be able to say £x if all goes well should wield a return on x%. Sport doesn't work like that.

I’m praying for a window of barely any activity. The last thing we need is lots of incomings & outgoings. It’s no coincidence that whenever we have successful seasons they tend to follow summer transfer windows with little activity. I don’t want to see us trying to gel a team together for the first 3 months of the season.

We need a right back to replace Ludewig & then we need to replace Mowatt & Woodrow if they leave & that’s it for me.

You can't unearth gems and diamonds every time though. That's the speculate to accumulate part. So at what point do you say not to "waste money" signing new players because for more than half (*) we will not recoup our initial outlay.

(*) number out of thin air - I don't actually know the percentage of our players that we don't recoup the initial transfer fee!

I don't think our problem is how much we spend on players. It's how many we bring in. (Different regimes) Wilkes, Mcgeehan, Thiam, Moncur, Bahre, Ritzmaier have all been expensive flops. I'd like to see the money spent more wisely.

Post of the week. At a time when many people post absolute ******** you write a simple, much-ignored truth.
