From the article in the FT Billy Beane looks like he’s teaming up with another management team to buy in to other sporting franchises. Interestingly they don’t rule out a European football team. I wonder where this leaves his relationship with Chien and Conway?

He already had european football interest before he got involved with our ownership. Paul Conway mentioned a dutch club

I may be wrong buy I thought those other associations were in advisory roles with BFC being his first move in to ownership.

I thought conway told us he was a shareholder of a dutch club for some time during one or the fan engagement forums. Would have to check my notes

Watched a thing on Brentford the other night where they claimed to be the Football Leagues example of how the "Moneyball" system works. A shining light to the rest of the Football League.

In reply to the Brentford Billy Beane thread which for some reason hasn’t highlighted.

Have you read their accounts? There's a misunderstanding of Moneyball in this country it seems, where as soon as you start using stats for recruitment you get the tag.

No wonder football is screwed in this country if Brentford are lauded as a shining light!

Be interesting to see what happens if they fail in the playoffs. Asset values drop, hopefully a keener eye on clubs regarding FFP etc, they could have some challenges ahead. Similarly Bournemouth if they don't go back up immediately.

I think they'll be fine as they'll move on 2/3 players for big money and so the process starts again. The only risk when you're spending above your means, is that if one window of recruitment doesn't work, or injuries strike at the same time, then you can't recoup the outlay and the balance sheet doesn't look as rosey.

He's an upgrade on that Hernandez so fits the Bielsa system. Also noticed when I watched the Swansea game how hard working he is. Proper player there.

Rumours going round that Chelsea are looking at him. I wouldn't rule out Leeds though - probably far more likely to be a first team regular there.

Didn't we operate the post war moneyball system in the fifties and sixties? It worked reasonably well until the supply of talent dried up and the value we could get from our players deminished. Tony Leighton and George Kerr were 60s examples but we were only getting the same price as players we sold in the fifties. I think the writing was on the wall when we bought Tommy Ring.

Still that was a very long time ago go. What comes around goes around.
