Turns out last summer wasn’t such a bad transfer window after all. Thank goodness we signed Mads et al on long term contracts. We just had the wrong man at the helm so the board acted decisively to rectify that particular situation. Anything to complain about now???
Nar ..... you are the WUM ...... for suggesting they are a WUM. But replying to OxRed - of course there’s things to complain about. Plenty. But then again - there’s plenty to be happy about.
I've been quite open on my criticism of Stendel, but at the same this is a cheap dig and not valid. Players might have turned out well, but playing experience has been huge. Imagine a team with Sollbauer and one other marshalling this young team for 46 games. Would be huge.
Not meant to be a dig at all. My tongue was firmly in my cheek. It’s an instant reaction to month’s of dog abuse aimed at anyone associated with the decision making process at the club. Onwards and upwards...
Yep why wasnt Sollbauer or a player like him brought in last summer instead of January. Maybe then the last head coach would have got similar brilliant results to the present one.
Sollbauer playing with the same tactics as the last Head Coach wouldn't look like half the player he has. What we don't know is if the last Head Coach would have changed his tactics had he being given the opportunity to bring in experience. But maybe the big calls he had in the boardroom he cashed in on Wilks, Thomas and Radlinger?
Surely Wilks and Thomas fit into the owners parameters of young and to improve in order to sell? No doubting Radlinger was his sole choice though but he only got him for a year, no other older or experienced players. I really hope Struber has got the total backing of the owners (like Daniel he deserves to) and they listen to his wishes on players.
I think the whole experience should be a massive poke in the ribs to our owners. Follow the plan but for gods sake apply some common footy sence and flexibility into it. You need a couple of experienced players, to bring the kids on! Imho we could have acheived so much more if they had.
It’s not an exaggeration to say we’d be down without Sollbauer, massive improvement defensively since he joined. At least they recognised the need for some experience, we will see if the lesson has been learnt and we can find a couple more like him to sprinkle the team with for next season.
Morning oxred let’s not sugar coat it....Struber has got Conway & Co out of jail. The deck of cards and total lack of ambition Struber was given he has worked miracles keeping us in the division. I am praying that this has taught the board a massive lesson that they are in the misters league and signing experience In key areas is the way to go moving forward from now on instead of throwing a hedgehog at a dartboard in the hope of recycling profits with the constant dismantling of any progress on the field. The board have been given a free pass by the skin of a nats c*ck by staying in this league and they now have to change the business model and must show more ambition and investment both on and off the pitch, reconnect with its supporters so we can consolidate and progress in the championship. Struber needs to be given more help in the transfer windows we need a mixture of youth but more importantly experience is key.
Irrelevant now. I wish Stendel well now we've stayed up. I would have classed him as a contributor had we gone down but it doesn't matter now/ Let sleeping dogs lie.
It’s fair to say the owners made mistakes last Summer. Instead of continually bashing them for it what we need to do now (IMO), is celebrate those mistakes did not cost the club relegation and kept us in this crazy league and then hope the board have learnt from some of those mistakes and use the experience to push on. I for one am not going to demand they spend silly money the club can’t afford. We have a half decent squad, looking at some of the clubs coming up with a couple of shrewd additions we can and should kick on. I’m sure there will be a few departures but I’m hoping out of the big names it’s only Woodrow, not that I want him to go, just think it’s inevitable.
I think the other significant factor is at goalkeeper Walton has been superb and has made several excellent saves and actually commands his area - Radlinger barely stopped a shot on target - had we played him since lockdown we would also still be down.
A couple of random observations* I think it would be healthier in general if we viewed and appreciated what we have and don't focus solely on what we don't have. Nothing in life is black or white - in between there is 50 odd shades of grey and plenty of depends. Binary thinking doesn't help and gets us nowhere. *Note - these aren't addressed to anyone in particular.
I hope we hear from the owners instead of their lapdog Dane. It would be nice for them to admit they have made mistakes, alienated people and what they plan to do going forward. Doubt we will ever hear from Chien though.
