Need to be careful with Schmidt. I am very disappointed in his impact but we've paid, if rumour be true, a fair wedge for the lad and, unless the deal was done without any due diligence, he must have some potential. I've seen two composed finishes from him but I'm baffled at just how little impact he has when he comes on. Why is he so anonymous? Is it him, team mates cutting him out or the system? Any views?

I watched him in u23s and he did seem to need a lot of coaching from Disco. Maybe he just needs more time, although dropping down a division could be what he needs.

We've dropped a massive b@!!@ck signing him imo. And his signing is a great example of how the transfer policy is flawed. Signing young players from lower leagues in the UK is a gamble but at least you have an idea about whether they can cope with the physical requirements of english football. It's a much bigger gamble with youngsters from foreign leagues, particularly those outside the big three or four. And it undermines the basis of our buy young, develop, sell for a profit and reinvest strategy because you only need a few failures and the loss eradicates the profit made on others. I sincerely hope the fee we paid was nowhere near the £1m figures suggested.

I know he doesn’t seem to get involved a lot (okay at all) but what’s the most game time he’s had for us in one go? 45 minutes against Blackburn maybe? He comes on for 10/15 minutes and I’m not sure any of our strikers would look good doing that.

Surely he needs some sort of sustained run in the side before we can properly judge him. In league 1 he could well get that.

I see him as more of a poacher who would need a big, physical striker next to him doing the dirty work though.

The most stupid managerial decision of the season. I wasn't surprised though

He has to earn a run of games by doing something. Run about, work hard, be noisy, leave a foot in, come deep and demand the ball, get on the ball and show some skill, do something, anything to make a difference. Sadly he contributes nothing, he's just anonymous. Bringing him on is like going down to ten men.

Edit: That also applies to some of our other young players btw who too often do nowhere near enough to impact the game. But Schmidt is the most extreme example.

Scored the winner at Millwall. That's 2 points he's got us.

And to be honest, the way I feel right now I'd put Schmidt up top with Chaplin and drop Woodrow. He's been poor for a while now, but today he was bloody useless. At least Schmidt wouldn't repeatedly waste possession with lazy 40 yard shots. The sooner we sell Woodrow, the better. Mowatt too. Two of the most frustrating players I've seen in years. I wouldn't miss either of them.

Seen it confirmed on twitter, Schmidt played for 18 minutes and had 0 touches. I actually think that's a disgrace considering our situation.

It's not even like we were getting battered and he was up top on his own. When he came on we're were arguably playing some of the best football we have played all season. For him not to touch the ball once is outrageous.

What a horrendous signing he was. Frightening that we've paid almost a million pounds for him.

I understand your frustration. Since restarting when we've most needed Woodrow he has been poor. Neither has Mowatt been at his best. But over the season as a whole they have been our two best players in my opinion, evidence by Woodrow 's 14 goals, Mowatt's 3 + 9 assists + average 51 successful passes a game. And both in a bottom of the league team. But aye, they're rubbish and the sooner we sell them the better.

You'll get your wish though - they'll be gone in the next window.

Yeah I agree he’s never really gone out and tried to earn the shirt. I’d still want to be judging him after he’s had a decent run in the side though.

Schmidt needs a proper chance in the team. Woodrow needs dropping for Schmidt. I'd also find a way of bringing in Miller too. I don't see the point signing players to score goals and bleating that they aren't doing the donkey work in the centre circle. Then in the next breath saying Woodrow should stay in the box to score goals. Make your fecking minds up.

Is this a post lockdown comment because before lockdown they were both immense contributors to whatever little we achieved in terms of results? Played in their favoured positions with the right set-up they are the first two names on the sheet for me. Post lockdown you can see that Woodrow seems less effective and less interested.

Yes, it's more of a post lockdown comment, and also a post disappointing result comment.

That said, I think Woodrow has been wasted for a large part of the season at the tip of the diamond. He doesn't have the skillset to be effective there, he's a striker, end of.

Mowatt post lockdown looks nowhere near the player I expected to see. His set pieces have been awful, his shooting poor, his off the ball movement non-existent. Rarely runs at the opposition. Styles looks a much better prospect at the moment IMO.
