Dane has gone quiet but I think that's because there's nothing he can say. The poor bugger can't defend the indefensible and his employers should be ashamed of themselves for going into hiding while he has to be the front for a football club failing due to their decisions.
Got to agree on that one. We ripped West Brom and QPR to pieces at Oakwell. A team full of dross wouldn't be able to do that. I do think we've lost a bit of sharpness during lockdown despite the 5 points from 4 games. I don't think Struber has helped matters with his over analysis and playing players out of position. In my opinion if we're playing 3 at the back it has to be Halme not Williams alongside Sollbauer and Anderson. Brown is just not a striker and should be played wide right. Thomas is a winger and shouldn't be playing centrally.
And odour had a staring role in both those games. He's now got splinters in his arse while we play a right back in his position
Many a team, many a year can click for a couple of occasions a season to pull a great result or two out of the bag, that’s football. We are 4 points adrift with 4 hard games left for a reason. Collectively this team are weak all over the park for the most part and are probably going to be relegated.
I think you only have to look at last season's accounts to realise that they will care especially if we don't bounce right back. Also, the quote was "the most successful transfer window ever" wasn't it? It may depend on how you measure success. He might have been looking at the transfer revenue in column. I think they were probably fairly happy with what they bought and maybe that shows the over-reliance on the computer model/gap in the recruitment process.
I think you are being overly critical. He did a bunch of interviews 2 or 3 weeks back. I cant imagine there's a lot more to say just yet. I dont think plans for next season are much clearer yet. We've had some discussions about follow-ups when the time is right but there probably needs to be more clarity around our final league position or what's happening next season? Or am I missing something?
For what it's worth... I don't think anyone should be blaming the players for our predicament.. In my eyes the lads have given 100% in most games sometimes they've put in a double shift and still come away with nothing from the game... Its not their fault nor is it the managers and his coaching staffs fault either.. They can only work with the tools they are given and I don't mean that disrespectfully.. Ie tools... The lads recruited, as we know were all raw and inexperienced basically a team of apprentices grouped together and expected to compete to the ability of seasoned tradesmen... through no fault of their own we were up against it before we kicked a ball last August.. Hence my statement on a previous thread that we were set up to fail... Yes I take on board what whitey said that my theory was wrong... But I can only go on what I see and in some cases hear... Yes the spin from Conway the sound bites...his hot air with no substance does little to convince me that I'm wrong... Ive seen nothing or heard anything positive from him since he took the easy way out after his DS spat which in my opinion for what it's worth... not only did he belittle our standing in the football fraternity but it was equally an embarressment and disrespectfully not only to the club, its supporters but the town also.. .. Call me old fashioned but no matter the circumstances you don't treat employees or exs for that matter that one episode alone said more about his lack of professionalism and disrespt for us as fans.and should have raised alarm bells to the type of person we have at the helm... ... it tarnished us all by the same brush.. .. A blind man on a galloping horse could see where we were going to struggle...with the squad we had assembled... OK hindsight is a great thing to have but come on... The lads recruited were no where ready to withstand the rigorous championship campaign... Conway and Co failed once again in the January window to help us dig our way out.... As it stands looking at the table and our remaining games I'd say we are as good as down... 2 relegations on their CV... Twice they've failed to act to rectify it... Instead in my opinion letting it run its course to failure adding well we tried... There will be more excuses than a lame duck coming out to explain our demise.. You watch... Every given situation every excuse they can muster... But it won't make it right... In my opinion Paul Conway and the board sold us short.... On more than one occasion... So as much I respect Andy and his comments it will take a lot more to convince me that I'm wrong... In my thinking... Best transfer window.... Ugh for who... Certainly not for the paying public... .... Just my opinion....
Selling Pinnock for 3 million quid tells you everything you need to know about the lack of footballing insight of the board. he’s a rolls royce, to quote Keith Hill.
He is a Rolls Royce to continue the parlance - but if said car then decides to under perform as they want out you risk disrupting any team harmony. Guardiola himself said last week there is little point in keeping a player who wants out. We should have got more for him though, at least 5m! One can only hope we have a sell on clause.
Did he want out right there and then though? Was he demanding to leave that second? The way that Paul Conway spoke about it and the quotes from the official site state that the reason he was sold was because he had rejected a contract extension for in a year's time and the club will sell every player who rejects a contact extension.
I’m questioning your optimism because I watch my team play every week. But, as I’ve said previously, everyone with the club’s interests at heart hopes that you are right.
Just going over the same ground we do after a run of bad results. The club has been run like this since Patrick Cryne changed the recruitment model. These owners only took on the club because of the way it was run. It's a **** way of doing things but it is what it is.
I've never quite bought into this "they wanted to leave" thing. Yes they probably do as they will earn more money and may have perceived a lack of ambition at bfc. However, if on a long contract surely the sensible discussion with someone like keiffer should have been: " you can't go now because it's too late in the window. We'll look for a replacement and if you want to go in January window we won't stand in your way. Prove yourself in the championship and you may get an even better offer than Wigan" the worst that happens then is he keeps his partnership with cauley going, the team score six more goals than it has, translates to four more points, Rob Wigan of at least two points and we stay up. I agree with the posters who say this isn't being run for league position anymore.
We have to amend "the plan" if we wish to be succesful at this level and it doesnt take a lot to do that. We have gone for "numbers in" purly because our remit is to sell, create a few quid and rince repeat. Its here they need to take some real advice from football people.
All makes a plausible argument and you would hope if both parties are reasonable that it could work. Only issue is as we have seen recently some players might look at it as if I suffer an injury etc it could jeopardise any move. Doesn’t change the fact he is still under a contract. I see people on here blaming the sale of key players etc (and they are right), but surely the real issue that needs addressing is why was did BFC allow itself to be put into a position where 4 key players could leave at the same time. Could be lots of reasons as to why, money, ambition, attitude, structure, management etc etc but get to the bottom of that and fix it then half the problems the club faces go away.
If you're taking the numbers approach you should still do it methodically. In the Championship you need 2 players in each position. If you sell two centre backs and let the other leave on a free you bring in three centre backs etc. Last summer the key area was the the defence. Instead we sign Halme and three unknowns and expect them to gel straight away. Then when we needed central midfield reinforcements we change the formation to suit bringing in three wingers, Thomas, Chaplin and Wilks. The attack looked rosy until a few days before the window shut. However, the timing of Moore leaving was shocking. The squad is woefully unbalanced as a result of poor recruitment in certain areas. I was quite happy with the individual signings but thought there was no wiggle room with formations and tactics.
If we’d have kept pinnock then I don’t believe we’d have even been in danger. We didn’t, so we are, so we can either whine like a needy toddler or get on with it and move on.
