Back in the day the line was; Willie Ferry Will he score Will he f**k Strange how for a player who only made four appearances I remember him well.
you aren’t wrong Bedeau was both terrible and bizarre in equal measures. Twice the player Willie Ferry was mind.
It used to keep me occupied many a long hour working out if Willie or Chris Hedworth was the worst player of ours that I'd seen. Eventually I plumped for Chris if only due to his 'greater' body of 'work'.
That’s fair - how can anyone say Willie, for example, was the worst when he only played four games for us? David Speedie wasn’t given much of a chance by Clarkie either and look where he ended up.
I'm sitting here currently trying to work out just how bad he must have been, and then wondering how he ended up playing football at a very high level, even if it was only four games.
I started going a couple of years before that aged 6, and I find it utterly bizarre that I can’t remember anything about him at all, even though when I look at the rest of the squad from that season I could name every single other player. I fail to believe he was worse than Sami Radlinger though.
I don't remember him either. I know all about him because he's infamously bad. I've known him for years and year and years. But I don't actually remember watching him play. Maybe I didn't.
If I remember rightly there was a big falling out between the pair of them. It wasn't that Clarke didn't rate him.
86-87 was my second season and I don’t remember him at all. I usually have fond memories of awful players but this feels like a missed opportunity. I remember Phil Gray better and he only played 3 games...
When I said I would post our conversation on here I didn’t tell him how to find it. I hope he doesn’t work it out for himself though
I'm sure he'd have given a 'Yes' to anything after you said, "I did a search on our fans bulletin board this afternoon for mentions of Willie Ferry and a few said what a lovely lad you were". Reminds me of the Alan Partridge 'no. 1 fan episode'..... Mentalist!
I remember Phil Gray perfectly well. Although he was 89-90. Forward on loan from Tottenham. Got him the same time as Lee Glover.
I was so excited when we got Lee Glover, with him having been a first team player in an excellent Forest side. What an absolute let-down!
By far and away the worst player I've ever seen play for Barnsley. However, as he was so far out of his depth no one gave him any stick really. It seemed almost cruel that Allan Clarke selected him. My opinion of the lad hasn't changed in the last eight years. Had the internet been available towards the end of 1986, I can well imagine the criticism would've been on a more personal level.
Weird I can remember Mick Butler. But can't recall WF years later. This is a sign of catching you up Kev
