Whilst I appreciate browns effort and constant high work rate playing as a striker he needs to be more clinical if we are to survive... 3 goals all season isn't enough
He has been more of the setup person - currently 6th in the Championsip Assists table. usually setting up Chaplin - as long as we are scoring I dont care if its Brown hitting the net or setting up someone else. Problem is last 2 games he has played a different role and not dong the setups. He should have done better with the chance Chaplin set up for him on Saturday but I think thats the only one he has missed in recent games
Like you, old mate, I couldn't care less who's scoring, as long as we do score. Brown's assists have been excellent this season, his strike rate less so. But I'd select him every week in the starting XI.
I'd give him an A for effort but only a C for attainment. Unfortunately effort only gets you so far. His crossing can be wayward and his finishing is shocking. I don't even know why he makes as many starts as he does.
I dont think it's our strikers that as been the problem all season. We have just kept 2 clean sheets against 2 good sides ,I see this as a great positive if we are to remain in the championship.
Brown does a great job for the team - stretches defences, decent in the air, and sets up chances for others. His finishing hasn't been as good this season but he's very young and will improve. No change I'd drop him, but even if you were to drop him... who for? Schmidt?
We've scored three goals in our last six games at Oakwell. But we've kept five clean sheets in our last seven games. Struber needs to get the balance right for the run in, but one things for sure is that we have a better chance of survival with the defence being stronger. Outscoring the opposition hasn't worked this season.
Does he remind anyone else of Andy Liddell? In the way he looks in between a wide man and a striker whichever position he plays in and has a similar style too. I hope he keeps improving but can see him having the same sort of career as Liddell. A very good League One player but never really managing to kick on at a higher level
If we are serious abart staying up then creating chances and letting fly at every opportunity is the order of the day, not just keeping possession until a big gaping hole appears to get a shot off or wasting valuable time pissin abart at the back. Like others dont care who scores as long as we score and get that goal diff on a par or better than the other strugglers. Come on Stroobs lets gerrin to em.
Andy Liddell was twice the player Brown is. That’s not to say Brown isn’t any good, but Lids was a far better player as a junior and as a pro at this point.
I don't see an issue comparing the similar style of two players without them being at the same level of ability. For example I've seen players having a similar style to that of your wonderful Father without coming anywhere near his high standards.
I liked him. Particularly when he played alongside Andy Payton in the 94/95 season. Always thought he looked better as an out-and-out forward, as he showed at Wigan, albeit at a much lower level.
I like Brown and think he is a talented and effective player. But he is being played out of position. For me he is at his best off the right (like under DS last season) That is where he is most effective, he gets more space to run at players and use his pace to get in behind. Of course with GS playing this diamond type system he is having to play more central which is highlighting his inconsistent finishing.
If he can do half as much as Liddell did for us then I'd be happy. Plus not being as good as Liddell might mean we get to keep a home grown lad for a change!
Yes Liddell couldn't hit a Camels arse with a banjo. Look at his miss at home to Leeds in the Premiership season. Free header straight at keeper at 2-0 up.
I don’t know what Browns role is. I don’t even know if he’s a good player or not. I do know he has speed to burn. And could frighten defenders to death with that speed - but he never gets into a position to use it. I’d give him some advice - two very quick players - watch original Ronaldo (Brazilian) and David Hirst tapes. As soon as they got the ball they drive forward with quick feet aiming straight for the middle of the net - causing defenders to panic. Brown has got the same speed and stature of these players - he needs to adopt their style and become far more aggressive.
