I get the feeling the game will be a bit more open against Blackburn, as it was at their place. Whatever happens with Hull and Boro today it's **** or bust Tuesday. Simply have to go all out for the win.
We're averaging 2 points per game since the restart. If we keep that up we'll finish on 52 points. That should do it. What could possibly go wrong?
4wins and 3 defeats in any order. Good point today. Better than no points. If we'd drew with QPR and beat Millwall the mindset would be a different one.
Exactly. Everyone chalked off QPR as a loss. It doesn’t matter the order we get the points, so long as we do. Quicker the better obviously, but doesn’t work like that. 4 points from 2 games and 2 clean sheets with 3rd choice keeper. The back 5 will only grow from this. It was always going to be the case, that the tighter we went, the more trouble we’d have scoring. But it had to be done.
Millwall were always going to win the physical battle. Sadly, we didn't get our passing game going enough to pose much of a threat today. I'm putting that down to match fitness at the moment. On the rare occasions when we did keep the ball on the floor, Millwall looked beatable, but it wasn't nearly often enough. I didn't see any lack of effort, just one or two players not (yet) up to Championship standard. That, coupled with some lacklustre deliveries at set pieces and some poor decision making in the box, made all the difference. To be honest, I never really expected a win today, despite our away win at Millwall, but a defeat would have been harsh. A point seems fair enough. Struber needs to come up with a viable plan B for when the opposition won't let us play it out from the back. Preferably one that doesn't include Walton hoofing it out of play.
Agreed it was a frustratingly poor display of attacking, yet even then we managed 5 occasions when their keeper had to deal with a strike on goal. Walton only had one to deal with in the 94th minute. Just a pity our attempts were a bit tame, though Mowatt's was good. Mads should have scored but I won't criticise him for that miss, just pleased he did his defensive duties. My real disappointment lies in the pedestrian play of Brown, Styles, Chaplin and to some extent Mowatt. Hopefully on Tuesay we won't come up against a team so physical and well oganised
Think we had decided we had been happy to get a point. There was no urgency from us to get a winner and in large most of the subs had been defensive rather than attacking.
Good summary. I'd have put Oduor on for Ritz. He can beat a man & make a cross. No one could do that today.
Yes, I think Odour is much sharper going forward. Ritz is helping the defence, but he's a bit hit and miss at the moment in the opposition half, though I thought he had more about him than last week. The enforced break probably hasn't done him any favours in adapting to the English game.
Clean sheets are the foundation for success. Chaplin is good on finishing, but not creation. As others have said, we're on a run rate that equates to survival (14pts), so if we were looking for a boost on goals, my view would be.... 'Bahre to start for me'. No idea why Magic was missing at QPR, but he is the best we have for picking the pass that sets up the likes of Chaplin. Otherwise, you have Chaplin starting & feeding off scraps.
I would have to agree but it certainly doesn't help when Woodrow isn't playing up front. From the position he is currently in he isn't creating or scoring goals so he's been wasted in there. It hasn't worked for far too long. Try someone else in that position, styles or even bahre.
