It's dumbing down and I struggle to believe how folk buy this ****. Its akin to folk who get stung by phone and doorstep scammers. It's almost like folk want something to hate, they've got to have an enemy. Race, religion, social background, political persuasion, what folk watch on tv to where they shop. Boris and Trump love these people they'd cause a riot in a nunnery.
He told them when got elected they were winners like him and then now he's floundering he and they are victims. They're emotionally tied, psychological linked. It's political Stockholm syndrome.
See also Brexit. Sadly though it’s not just the entrenched vocal minority, it’s the middle ground confused into believing ‘they’re all as bad’. it’s sadly visible everywhere ‘but the Democrats’, ‘but Corbyn.’, ‘but the EU’, they’re desperate for an enemy. This is what wealth and peace gives us; a fear that it’ll all come crashing down.
Biden was an absolutely dreadful choice I agree. Old, tired, pro-establishment. I don't see very much difference between him and Hilary. Where's Michelle Obama when you need her?
I know it’s not good if you’re an American citizen but I think 4 more years of Trump would certainly be better (in the long term) for the rest of the world - or at least the ‘Western’ bit of it.
You're almost there. You just need to delete the words "It's almost as though" from your final sentence, then you've nailed it.
I don’t think in my lifetime there has ever been a time when the USA exerted less influence on the world, but particularly the West. It’s been several decades (IMHO) since that influence could be said to be something good or positive. I think many (most?) western countries have come to see they can’t rely on the USA in the way that many did post WW2. You can see Countries growing away- very visibly in the case of many in the EU. When you get someone like Trump elected that split seems to accelerate. He doesn’t represent the values or ethics of many countries any more, in fact quite the opposite. Ergo. Long term, the split is better for many Countries, particularly those that don’t feel they need to belong to one bloc or another. I’m not welded to these views, they’ve just been formed over time as I see the power shifts taking place. I never thought in my lifetime there would be a genuinely anti democratic right wing Govt in Washington at the time time that there was an even more anti democratic right wing Govt in Moscow! Add to the mix that one of the most capitalist countries in the world is now China and all three of them are, to put it mildly, pretty unsavoury and you realise why other countries might want to plough their own furrow. Two issues with my theory. One, keeping Trump away from the button is obviously critical! Two, the jury is still out on where the UK sits in the brave new world.
