Not my gig I’m afraid. I’m massively against it so I’ve tried to stay out of the discussion as I’m not a fair voice on it.
Was the sound actually in the stadium yesterday? I was under the impression that in the premier league games it was just added in afterwards on TV. If it was in the stadium how loud was it?
It was piped into the stadium. It was overly loud for those of us there. Over TV, it doesn’t sound as loud. The Prem isn’t piped in. It’s over one TV feed via a sound effects board operated by a tech guy using FIFA 20 audio. So you’ve a choice, as a viewer, watching Sky. I have chosen no fake noise for the games I’ve watched so far. We don’t have that choice. And I didn’t like it. It was distracting, unrealistic and added some extra bizarre on top of what was already the most bizarre game I’ve attended. However, some enjoyed it.
Got to say I watched the other Championship highlights and I thought it was way better than the ones with players and coaches voices echoing round, sounded like a training session
watched 2 premier matches on BT sports, the crowd sound effects were 'piped' but I thought it was quite effective TBH.
I thought it was the best noise I'd heard for any behind closed door game ( disclaimer I ve only watched a couple) I wonder if they will rethink it after losing to us though.
I remember one of the old FIFA's let you add your own crowd noises that you could download from the net to the game so I had Barnsley chants and singing while I was playing.
Im expecting the usual White Noise - with some old fooker in the background mumbling and grumbling about the price of pies.
I kept noticing whenever they has a shot that was nowhere close, they got a massive ooooh. But I’d imagine if you’re a striker that’s just missed, that would piss you off as it’s almost like a sarcastic ooooh that the opposition fans would do. I like it on tv for the viewer, but can’t see how it helps those actually playing at all.
I'd humbly disagree personally. I thought it added to the match viewing on iFollow & probably how the players seemed up for it, rather than a lot of games that have looked flat. I obviously wasn't in the ground, so you have a perspective I don't have & I'm not questioning that. I can only comment as I saw it. I think a game where you just hear the players & ref is too sterile. Each to their own.
You could do that, with bunches of samples. It would have to go on the stream, not over the tannoy, but could massively add to the commentary IMO, but I see things from a DJ perspective & sound is crucial, whether you go for a walk & hear the birds & wind in the trees, etc, or the sounds at a match. A match with no fans is a training ground exercise. A match is a colosseum, opposing fans, referee abuse, banter, people trying to use a useless plastic fork to break the crust of an over cooked pie... I could go on.
The general consensus/feedback from fans seems to favour it. And whilst I can't bear it, I'll go along with whatever the fans want, as always. However, if the players/staff don't like it, that might well stop it happening at Oakwell. Time will tell I suppose. I suppose it's like sitting at a concert and having the band play their instruments and sing into a mic but pipe in the same song but out of sync. It's proper rubbish. But yeah, probably comes over differently on screen.
I just switched channels to watch villa v chelsea without crowd noise. It was like watching pre season friendly. Tuned back into crowd noise channel not perfect but prefer it.
Would it be possible to just do it over commentary rather than the tannoy system ? If players aren’t bothered about it or it’s interfering with concentration etc which I can understand with a tinny noise blurting out then a background noise over the commentators not too loud but just enough to not make it feel like a training game tbh .
