With it being 48 hours from the restart of the Championship we've grouped together three of our local sports journalists to look back on the moments of the season so far and to get a feel for the mood at Oakwell.

Looking forward to this one although would rather be relaxing on the sofa watching it than orchestrating the thoughts of three people at the same time!

Going live in 30 minutes. For those watching, advanced apologies for any live chaos with having four people on the call!

Well done again Ben. Another admirable production. Not as interesting as listening to old players telling us funny stories about their time at Oakwell but a good listen in its own right. Thanks to Doug, Andy and Leon for their contributions to a lively discussion.

Was just saying that! It feels like the start of a new season and we're going to win 9 out of 9 ............

No idea what that was like to watch but it was the most 'normal' I've felt in terms of football for three months. Loved it.

I'm biased because I see these guys a lot, but they're all a pleasure to know and all are spot on in terms of their football knowledge. I've missed seeing folk like that, never mind the games. It'sa big family is football. Zoom's great but you can't beat having a good chinwag about football in person.

Thoroughly enjoyed tonight's stream. Thanks Ben. Good to hear the opinions of three
well informed and respected journalists.Hope Doug O'Kanes prediction comes to pass,
although sadly, I think a seven point gap might prove difficult to claw back, to guarantee
    our survival in the Championship.

It was also nice to hear the positive comments about our Media team. Very pleasing
that their hard work and co-operation with radio and newspaper presenters is appreciated.

Listening to this now, great stuff!

The chat about the mistakes last summer has made me really angry all over again. I can't believe those in charge have got away with it. Who's decision was it to sell Pinnock - Conway? Dane? They need sacking/ replacing! An absolutely useless bunch of decision makers, who know less about Championship football than your average fan.
Likewise shocking work with Stendel's sacking and the amount of time to get Struber in. A month delay was another nail in our coffin. What a crazy list of blunders. #SackTheBoard

Not to take away from the great listen though Loko. These guys are really knowledgeable about the reds, and it's got me excited for football to start again!

Refreshing honesty and insight from all of them. Can't remember if it was Giddings or Leon who mentioned 'Championship nous' at boardroom level, maybe they both did in different ways, but it was absolutely spot on.

It was also good to hear someone say that Stendel didn't do himself any favours. Too often he's pitched as a complete saint, when his inability to change from our attack attack attack League One tactics were obviously not helping us in the Championship.

My prediction is that if we win 9 out of 9 we will stay up!

As is the case with all of this type of discussion in the media, the gentlemen of the press ignore the elephant in the room. The elephant is of course finances, and the effect that finance has on club policies and the way that the club does its business. Barnsley has decided, for whatever reason, that it does not wish to join most of the rest of the Championship in losing vast amounts of money annually, and then having to find the money to refinance those losses on a regular basis. In the case of Barnsley, those losses are kept well below the £13m per season (or £39m over 3 seasons) which would invoke sanctions under FFP rules. As a result, the team is placed at a disadvantage as compared to all the clubs in the league who are willing to test FFP regulations, and in some cases, to break them. Personally, I am happy that my club is run this way. Personally, I am happy that my club does not try to win games pure through the use of financial muscle. However, the Championship has become a huge step for clubs that have existed under different FFP rules in League 1, and I think that it is important to acknowledge that jump, rather than simply opting for the easy answers and blaming the board for not doing more. It is not easy to make the right decisions as a board, not as easy as piling presure upon board members and the CEO if you are a member of the media anyway.

We all understand that you have a keen interest in the intricate details of the club finances, but to suggest it was an elephant in the room is only to support your own interest in that particular subject and not a reflection of the discussion that was had.

There wasn't any 'piling of pressure' and just honest assessments, that praised and criticised in equal measure. Exactly how it should be.

Do I understand you correctly here? Are you saying that the amount of money spent on transfer fees and player wages has no part to play in the performance of the team and its final league position?

I never suggested anything even close to that. You talked about an elephant in the room that wasn't there, and that's what I was pointing out.

The elephant in the room that was not talked about is the fact that Barnsley FC operates on a different financial plan to the other club in the league. It is not prepared to compete on the basis operated by most other clubs. That is to say that it has no plans to compete with their spending. If that is not an elephant in the room, then I do not know what you would class as an elephant.

You're coming at this with your own 'passion' for the club finances. It wasn't talked about because it was never asked, and it wasn't asked because it didn't need to be. Maybe elephant in the room means something different to you, but the definition goes:

'If you say there is an elephant in the room, you mean that there is an obvious problem or difficult situation that people do not want to talk about'.

There was no obvious problem or difficult situation and there was nothing that anybody didn't want to talk about.

I think you've missed the mark here. Everyone knows the uphill battle the club has with finances, and I don't think Loko or those 3 journalists have avoided that at any point.

Most agree that we don't want the club to operate in a way that is unsustainable.

That doesn't mean the board is doing well! They messed up on a massive level last summer and I for one am going to carry on moaning about it

The point about lack of strength at the back, and particularly at centre back was made by all. In order to bring to the club a Championship ready centre back, the club has to pay the market price, not only in transfer fee, but also in the player's pay. One of the reasons that players leave is that they can better their pay by leaving. Therefore, if we wish to acquire a Championship ready centre back, we have to be prepared to be competitive on salary. We have to pay a rate of pay for the replacement that we could not afford for the player who left. Finance was the reason that the player was transferred and finance was the reason why he could not be replaced with another player who is Championship ready. Finance is the principle reason for taking the decisions that are taken. If you want to avoid any discussion about finance, then you are not addressing the principle reason why decisions are taken at our club, hence my comment about the elephant in the room.
