Seen as though I just complained about people starting too many threads on the same theme I thought I better condense this in to one! Line-up Announcement/Questions for Andy Rhodes Thanks to the support of the club we've been able to add Michael Sollbauer and Jacob Brown to the Live from Redfearn's Bar line-up. Obviously this is subject to change as we're not living in normal circumstances right now. Excited much? Yes, because I quite literally love Solli! Also, questions for Tuesday night with Andy Rhodes please. How did our first ever goalkeeper to win Player of the Year only play 36 games?
If I'm not mistaken Andy Rhodes was the goalkeeping coach when we went into admin. How was his release conveyed to him- a letter in the post or a tearful face to face meeting with John Dennis? Jordan Rhodes was in the academy at the time so we missed out on a future multi-million pound sale when he left for Ipswich.
Andy Rhodes became our first choice goalkeeper in the Autumn of 1983 and kept his place for the remainder of the season. His outstanding displays rightly saw him receive the Player Of The Season award. In the Summer of 1984, newly appointed manager Bobby Collins signed Clive Baker from Norwich City. Baker was the favourite of Collins, so he became our first choice goalkeeper.
For what it's worth I think Clive Baker got an OU degree in mathematics while he was our keeper. Should have had no problems working out his angles.
Did he think at the time that Geoff horsfield and Dave Watson would make it professionally when him and Aggie ran oakwell juniors?
what about some questions as a preamble which tell us a bit about what he did football wise at school/college and how he made the transition to professional football. How difficult was it - who helped him - how did he go about it?
There seems to he a bit of a debate about the circumstances surrounding his Oakwell departure I.e. Was he sacked, made redundant or did he receive a better offer. Might be worth asking him to clarify that.
............and no doubt he would've been able to differentiate between a cross and a shot and was able to integrate quite easily into the first team
