Right. And how many seasons have they been up there? How does their trophy-haul in my lifetime (41 years) compare to our zero? Have they won a League Cup, like the all-conquering Middlesbrough? Or even got to a final, like the Barcelona of the Wirral, Tranmere Rovers? An FA Cup, like the egg-chasing town of Wigan?

I don't understand why anyone from Barnsley would support either of the dee-dars. They've had a at least eighty years of failure (one League Cup aside) so you're as well to support us if you want to be constantly let down - and you don't have to sit with people who pronounce 'a' as 'o'. Leeds, I accept, is a slightly different case. Champions League semi-finalists this millennium and recent-ish champions of England eclipses anything either Sheffield club has done.

If you're from Barnsley and you're not going to support Barnsley FC it's under an hour to the Etihad, and you might as well get some bang for your buck.

I do believe these owners can make huge differences at Barnsley.
Because they have the money to do it - which unfortunately Patrick didn’t.

And no - it doesn’t need hundreds of millions throwing at the club like what’s happened at Wendy.
But it does need securing players when they come along - that’s why I believe the Cryne era strategy of young loan players was a good one.
We just needed more money to secure their services.
I don’t include Ethan Pinnock in that - because it may have been the right time for him to move on.
I’m talking more of the Trippier, Pearson, Drinkwater type that’s been through the club.
And there has been a shed load of these.

We had a good recruitment of players last summer.
Although obviously it didn’t click as well as it should have - especially in central defence.
The directors need to show intent and build on top of what was started last summer - relegation or no relegation.

One. I can’t stand them either, but you can’t dispute that they’re making a very good go of it.

Is a trophy the measure of ambition? We’ve won one cup trophy in my lifetime, and it was a lot less meaningful than last season’s runner up standing, or all the play-off success before that.

I’m not from Barnsley, none of my family are from Barnsley, yet we’ve always supported Barnsley.

In my view (and other people can do as they want, but my opinion is what it is) if you aren't going to support your smallish local club (which is what we are) then you may as well go balls-deep and let Guardiola give you orgasms as you knock Real Madrid out of Europe or whatever. If someone thinks Barnsley don't have the ambition, then Sheffield Wednesday certainly do not, either, unless finishing in the middle of the Championship in your rusty death-trap and appointing serial failure Garry Monk floats your boat.

If you're trading your heritage, might as well make it worthwhile. Sheff. Utd are doing well, but they have dropped lucky on a genius. I despise them, but that word is appropriate for him. When he leaves them they'll be back to their usual 2-3000 in the North Stand, wondering where it all went wrong. They don't get particlarly large attendances by the standard of major English cities. They haven't won a trophy since 192x. They're up there for one reason and one reason only, and when he goes then it's back to normal.

Wilder needs to win them a trophy before he goes, otherwise the outstanding cycle they are enjoying will all be for nothing. If so, there's no reason I can see why anyone from Barnsley would adopt them - but that's just me because obviously some people do.

Yikes! Was that a wise offer? I wouldn’t have thought we were paying anything like that amount.

It's easy to offer 16k a week when you know it isn't going to be accepted.

Contracts dont mean much though to be fair, we sold conor for 3million with 6months left if he had a 3 year deal we could have got a big sum for him.

The ambition of Barnsley FC has always been dictated by the fiscal resources available
at anytime during our illustrious history. We are told that our current owners are very wealthy,
although thus far, they have repeatedly stated that they are not prepared to do anything crazy
as far as spending is concerned and are content to continue the long standing strategy of signing
young players, improving them, in the hope we can sell them on for profit in the future.

Like others before him, Ethan Pinnock harboured personal ambition. He signed as a 17 year old for Dulwich
Hamlet and had six seasons with them before moving for one season to Forest Green Rovers. He then
improved his lot by joining us and after two seasons, accepted an offer better than we could put forward
to join Brentford. If he continues to develop, there is no doubt that in the next two seasons, he could well
be playing in the top flight, either for Brentford, or one of the long established Premiership Clubs.
