Do they even give that much protection? One minute the WHO said they didnt then they did..... seemed to change everyday.

Far too late. Should have been done sooner to get back to normal quicker. I suggest people wear one sooner the better to get to how uncomfortable they will be in summer heat. Young kids exempt but no age given. Those with health problems exempt but no way to prove it. Why is public transport picked on and not all indoor places such as shops, supermarkets, taxis etc?

Face masks protect others more than yourself apparently. Like others have stated, 3 month too late though.

I think they protect yourself more than is being said. They could for instance reduce the viral load that you receive, which in turn could make a difference how seriously you become ill. The UK government rubbishing the idea from the outset (purely from a NHS resource fear in my opinion) has made most people blase about them though.

At least one person is making a fortune out of this - that one whose job it is to close that stable door that was mentioned above

I'm glad that it's only March and not the start of June or something.

This government are really on top of the whole virus thing. Congratulations to them for putting measures in early.

I imagine that taking the threat seriously from the get-go will mean that our Prime Minister - well worth his 80-seat majority judging by the quickness of his party's response - doesn't nearly die from it himself.

Why on earth are we waiting till June 15th.
Er  wearing face coverings protect us from each other. TELL US SUMMAT WE DINT KNOW YOU EFFING IMBECILES. I’ve been protecting every fckre else. While they’ve been happily going round supermarkets with nowt. (HELPING YOU. PLEASE HELP ME. FFS) blocking aisles. It dunt need an effin Scientist or politician to tell me that . ( DO FOLK NEED THEIR ARSES WIPING.)

Wear a face covering where anyone’s in numbers, unable to guarantee distancing is what I’ve tried to do. why is that not mandatory.

    Supermarkets
Morrison’s by far the worst in the organisation of one way system’s. All the others having got it mostly right.

    rant over.

I was talking to a colleague in the deep south of the US this morning (North Carolina to be specific) and he says that masks have become a political thing to the extent that him wearing a mask is basically confirming himself as a Democrat. He still wears one, but he gets some insane abuse for it.

NC isn’t far off becoming a swing state, they have a Democrat Governor, but a Republican state senate, so he could live in a worse place

Absolutely agree - to make compulsory on Public Transport but not shops is just dumb - and it should have been done 3 months ago

At the height of the pandemic the Tory party didn't think masks were needed. Now we are seeing a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel apparently NOW is the time to start wearing them...

Unless they are of an adequate quality they will be practically useless.

Is that what Stendel said to Conway when asked about cut price replacements last summer?

3 months ago there wasn't a widely accepted scientific view that face masks would help prevent the spread of the virus. I think many of the decisions by our government have been appalling but I can't blame them on this one.
