It’s quite a read but they are suggesting a different method of PPG calculation Tranmere Rovers is requesting the EFL Board to put a proposal forward for EFL Clubs to vote on. We recognise that the proposal may need some additional work around the detail. In our view that is something which should be done in collaboration with clubs. This would be routine stake-holder management and we see no reason why it would need to be a time-consuming exercise. The proposal is that: If a decision is taken by a division to end their season now (or indeed at some point in the future but before all of the fixtures are completed): a) The league table is calculated using a simple PPG basis; b) There is then applied to the table the statistical average actual margin for error over the last 3 years (being +6.3 or – 5.45%); c) Teams in the automatic promotion spots even where the margin for error is applied, should be automatically promoted; d) Teams in the play-off places or who could be in the play-off places where the margin for error is applied should be invited (but not compelled) to compete in a play-off tournament; and e) There would either be no relegations, or relegations only of clubs who would be relegated even after the margin of error has been applied (see detailed explanation below). https://www.tranmererovers.co.uk/ne...le-end-to-the-efl-season-in-a-time-of-crisis/
I'm guessing Tranmere would survive with this plan. I don't think there's a plan in the scope of man's ingenuity that could possibly save us.
Why is everybody trying to complicate it. No rule changes required - if the season can't be completed its void.
Take 12 or 15 points off the Wendys and relegate them for breaching FFP and give them to us!!! Problem solved
Has anyone thought of a petition to be put forward to the efl. if the season was to be decided by ppg. I’m sure the thousands of fans that support those in the relegation places. ( if there’s one out there point me to it) would sign. People are saying on here they back the board on this issue. Let’s show it. But also there will be thousands of right minded folk, who support those that would end up safe. Would sign it. Why should it be only the clubs that decide. The fans are still the most important, in all of this ****. Money is god to this shower of *****, But God wouldn’t have any any business left without his followers. Maybe one for the media team to get off the ground if one isn’t in place. A nationwide poll.
Just accept relegation. Over 37 games we've found ourselves 7 points adrift at the foot of the table. The likelihood of winning 6 of our last nine is minimal. Hence our league position.
Quite. It would be funny if every club submitted a selfish proposal purely to ensure their own survival, then we would have 24 to choose from. Ours might include clauses like 'if there was an r in the month when you played Charlton you get 3 extra points' or summat
It looks as if most clubs and their fans are keeping their powder dry until some firm proposals are made about this season. Clubs who have the same interests will likely get together to mount a legal challenge which I'd guess the EFL would want to avoid at all costs. I think clubs like Barnsley would have a stronger legal case against their being relegated than would say aargh Leeds have a case to be promoted. And there will be a massive fan reaction whatever happens! Of course the season should be voided - to make an analogy - were an evening 1500 meter track race stopped after the third lap because say the floodlights failed they wouldn't pronounce the person leading at the time as the winner - they'd re-run the race.
I still think the problem is higher up the pyramid. It's a shame Liverpool have gone so long without the title otherwise it would have all been done and dusted by now. They're looking for a way of voiding it and still giving Liverpool the title instead of saying null and void tough ****.
The scenario I ran through my head RT. ( maybe weird but here goes) Your ranked 67th in the world at Wimbledon. You get to the quarters. It’s cancelled due to a virus. The top seed left in the comp. gets the trophy. The money and the glory. Told thi I was weird.
It's hard to sort really isn't it? I can't see any solution appealing to every team for obvious reasons. I think the whole lot needs to either be null and voided, or promotions and no relegations from the leagues, to be readjusted at the season after. Still not ideal though.
nothing wrong with a bit of weirdness! You're correct - morally in any sport you can only give a trophy and money when someone has won the competition. And those BFC supporters who seem to accept that because of our current position we should meekly accept relegation should think again! o/t a tad - read somewhere that Wimbledon Tennis Club took out insurance some time last year to cover them financially if the Tournament was cancelled due to a pandemic.
Or being 3 or 4 goals up away at Plymouth. the game being abandoned for water logged pitch and having to replay it. the EFL won’t let the result of an abandoned game stand but won’t void the result of an unfinished season
I’m also in favour of the suggestion made at the time. That the premier accept to no relegation and accept increase in numbers. Based on only automatic places and not wasting time with play offs. 2 up from each league no relegation. With adjustments for leagues1 and 2 due to the bury and non league issues.
Weird season starting off relegation certainties until Robins got us on a roll. Then being in with a serious shout of the play-offs after beating Blackpool at home only to put our sombreros and flip flops on early.

That could be decided by Liverpool and Manchester City playing the next 2-3 games until it was mathematically certain that they couldn't be caught. It could be over in 3-5 games.
that's right - you can't promote/relegate on what would be a HYPOTHETICAL scenario. Nor can you devise some weird and wonderful system of assessing how things may have worked out. If it's not voided I would hope those aggrieved clubs pool their finances and mount a legal challenge and aggrieved fans take to the streets.
