This isn't the end of it in my opinion. I got the impression that Boris was extremely uncomfortable during that press conference but what he has to understand is that while loyalty is admirable it has to be appropriate.

I still think that Cummings will be gone at some point this week.

Tory MPs are breaking ranks and calling for him to go and it seems there might be more revelations to come.

Reading between the lines I genuinely think that it is only a matter of time now.

I have mentioned the use of services on another thread . Surely on a long journey they have used facilities that essential workers have had to use ,
If so knowing they have tested positive that’s criminal ?

If he goes, will he go kicking and screaming or will he take it on the chin and jump? If he does the former he may make some parting shots and perhaps take someone down with him. We’ll see

It was criminal anyway. It's just that they're pretending it wasn't.

If it was me or you we would have been fined and it upto us to challenge the fine. With Cummings it's swept under the carpet and it's up to the public to prove that what he did was illegal. Shows once and for all that he isn't an ordinary member of the public.

Don't worry. Everything will be fine as long as we all practice doublethink.

Doublethink - a process of indoctrination whereby the subject is expected to accept as true that which is clearly false, or to simultaneously accept two mutually contradictory beliefs as correct, often in contravention to one's own memories or sense of reality.

    Orwell's vision is here...

He's such a weird Kurtwood Smith-looking little gremlin as well. Seriously, what did we do to deserve this.

I honestly think Cummins couldn’t give two feks whether he gets done or not tbh or whether ex sacked or resigns .
It’s Boris that’s hanging on to him because he’s fekin useless without his advice , no one to tell him to hide in fridges when that nasty media want to ask him questions .

It's a good question. I'd like to think that he will realise that his position is untenable and resign but that is looking less likely now. I still think he will resign but it will be because he is told to and it will be a more palatable option than being sacked.

I think the only way Cummings will go now is if Johnson is ousted. Much as I would love that to happen and it will well before the next election I don’t see it happening soon

If there are more revelations to be published, and I believe there are, I don't think he will survive the week. Who was it who said that when the story becomes about an individual they only have five days before they have to go.

What Cummings did is a million miles from being a hanging offence but it was rank hypocrisy of a nature that I think is impossible to survive given his position.

Sky news said they believe more is to follow tomorrow but not enough to be "damaging".

That may well be the case but the damage has already been done. It might not damage him any more than he already has been but even the most minor revaluation could prove to be the final straw.

I don't have an issue with Cummings politically so I'm not spinning any political agenda. If members of the public like me believe he should resign and Tory MPs are breaking ranks and calling for him to resign then surely there is little room left manoeuvre.

    Completely agree, mate.

This transcends politics as far as I'm concerned and as you've pointed out even Tory MPs are calling them out.

I've spent the vast majority of this lockdown alone. I'd love to spend time with my loved ones. If Labour had pulled the same stunt I would still be mightily pissed off about it.

Me too mate. I said that the Scottish chief medical officer and the government scientist had to resign so I'm certainly not going to defend Cummings. How can he be defended when he helped to create the rules that meant families couldn't be with loved ones while they died yet he thinks he can ignore the same guidance.

Like you say this isn't about politics for most people, its about right and wrong.

I've never posted a political thread before. I'm not a political animal. I usually hate cries for sackings and resignations when politicians f**k up. It's usually just cross party bickering. This is so different. Conservative Governments regularly act as if they are above the law. This takes it to another level. If true, and he knowingly travelled the length of the country whilst symptomatic in the midst of an horrendous pandemic to see family, whilst the rest of the country was banned from doing so beggars belief. Then to make it worse, the Government accepts it and tries to pretend nothing wrong has happened. The similarities between this government and America's are growing every day. It will be interesting to see if our mostly right wing media pick up on the people's shock and revulsion. I doubt it. Bloody hell, how many more years of this government do we have to put up with?
