    We're not "opening up to the world" at all. We're shutting down. The rules that are being introduced would have denied her parents entry into the country. The thick, ladder pulling cretin.

    In fairness your response comes across as you have stretched his, when you referred to making it harder for Europeans when all he said was opening to the rest of the world. He never said about stopping Europeans with skills etc.

    I don’t agree with his personal comments towards you though in his response to your response.

    Maybe I didnt word my response as well as I could have but I was slightly angry when I typed it.
    The policy doesnt open up to the rest of the world though - its already possible for the rest of the world to come here - it just introduces a points based system - something we could already have done whilst in Europe or even after leaving Europe but agreeing to keep free movement.
    All it has done is made it as hard for a European to move here as a national of any other country and it has made it much harder for Britons without Irish passports to work in Europe.
    Its also made it impossible for anyone European or otherwise to move here for any job that pays poorly so the doublespeak of opening up the country is not the case at all

    As I mentioned on another thread yesterday, people born in the UK to British-born parents now have less rights and opportunities than those born in the UK to EU-born parents. Those in NI have different opportunities to those in the GB bit of the UK. British born people in the EU have less rights and opportunities than those that were born in the EU. It has made *us* lower class and less employable across the entire EEA area. So the government can do something they could always do but couldn't be arsed to.

    It depends on the job. If the job involves working within the EU, then the EU-born person is at an advantage over the other two. Not just high end jobs either - Ryanair were only recruiting EU-passport holders to work as flight crew based in Manchester because they wouldn't need a work visa for every country. Same with lorry drivers, consultants, and many other roles. We have made it harder for Brits to do those jobs.

    People seem to be forgetting (or not realising) that not only is it stopping freedom of movement inwards , it also works outwards so they are happy for their own rights to be taken away :rolleyes:

    It causes a big problem in my industry. Not necessarily for me *now*, but if you count the number of people in suits at airports (or St Pancras) travelling for work into the EU - every single one of those jobs is at threat for British people.
