It's so shameful that the hospitality industry has been sacrificed along with millions of jobs with bugger all extra support despite being FORCED to close but instead the focus is constantly on the government not forcing private companies to protect its care home residents. I'm a bit sick of that tbh. I really dislike Boris but he isn't to blame for greedy lovely people who run care homes and did not take the necessary steps to protect its high paying residents.
Galls me a bit that me and the Mrs have had to work all the way thru this, busier than ever, as key workers, not had the benefit of a free 3 month furlough holiday, but will end up paying the extra tax increases to fund those who have. What do I get. I reckon those who've not been furloughed should be given a tax break or 12:weeks extra paid holiday over the next couple years or so. Fairysnuff?
It is too early to tell and even economists won't agree on the answer. I think the real question is how long restrictions will have to stay to place. The longer they do the bigger shock it will be for the economy.
Universal Basic Income and a complete overhaul of the tax system. Won’t happen with these in charge though.
There's a decision to be made and it has 3 options. 1. Treat the vulnerable different to the healthy and impose different restrictions. 2. Sacrifice the jobs of the young 3. Sacrifice the lives of the elderly. The obvious, obvious answer is and always has been option one but that has been ruled out by so many people from day one. As it's still ruled out the choice is now a straight one. Let old people die or let young people become homeless.
But will all the industries that have furloughed thru necessity or copped out, really vanish when things return to "normal" and yes, "normal" will return.
Many will yes. Not all but the hospitality industry will be decimated. The retail industry will change forever and those already deserted high streets will be ghost towns.
I’d rather be at work (as I am) I have seen so many people on social media drinking beers in the garden/hot tub captioned “this furlough isn’t bad” too naive/stupid to see what’s staring them in the face
Coupled with 'well if you don't work twice as hard, work extra hours, work weird hours and do as we say then there are millions of unemployed people who will do your job'
