227 in UK hospital settings announced today. When we get the hospital figures later it still won't be anywhere near the last six Tuesdays of 1,038, 1,044, 1,172, 909, 693 and 627. We could be just like Italy are.

The two metre rule that was plucked from thin air will kill off many pubs and bars anyway. We social distance most of our life anyway without being told to do it. If they ended social distancing we'd still give space to others and not invade their personal space.

I'd say it's gross criminal negligence. The kind of right wing fascism you'd have expected from Mussolini with his reverence for the economy.

There seems to be the odd few with masks on and gloves.

It's same as the 10,000 steps a day. That's a myth thought up by a pedometer company. In reality you need between 12 and 20,000 steps a day.

Yep although masks are still obligatory in public places but when eating and drinking it is obviously impossible to wear one. In that picture you can see lots of people in the background wearing masks and many people at the tables have the mask around their neck. We made our first venture as a couple outside our own commune today to go to the frozen fish/seafood outlet and then onto the garden centre for plant food, some garden plants and a bag of compost (rock 'n roll!!) Documents no longer required. Restaurants and bars ARE open but social distancing is supposed to be applied. Travel outside Italy (within the EU) cinemas and theatres are due to open (conditionally) 3rd June. The restaurants and bars are supposed to arrange tables a metre apart but the picture may be a bit misleading with foreshortening effect.
In fairness total Covid deaths yesterday fell below 100 but, as is the way of things crept up to around140 today. In our region yesterday there were no deaths and very few cases (in single figures)
