And yet people drive their kids to school living less than a mile away causing far more deaths. They don't inoculate them using safe vaccines that won't just protect their kids but their own population. They feed them junk food and allow them to become overweight. Yet with this, suddenly if there's a miniscule chance of ill health they have to be locked away. I know, I know I'm a cultish baby killer.
The problem touched on earlier is that Children in the main remain asymptomatic. Why maximise a minimal risk at the minute by sending them back to school for a month when they can wait until September by which time the virus cases might be lower?
What happens when your boss says come on we need you back at work now and you say no I can’t get childcare as the kids are not in school...
Furlough has been extended for four months. Firms would have to be stupid going back early when the government is picking up 80% of the tab. I see your point but is 1 month going to make that much difference?
Doesn't matter to some, they don't plan on ever returning to work as they will only do so when its "safe".
Firms have other costs beyond wages. Also if a competitor returns to business and you don't that could kill a company off.
Yeah I can see both angles. I'll pose this though. Under lock down what happens after a month is up and kids are off again for six weeks? What do workers that have to go back to work or gone back to work tell their bosses? The childcare issue raised by Deetee becomes more confused? I'm not spoiling for an argument. I have concerns too.
If you applied that to everything in daily life you would never, ever leave the house, you would never eat... 100,000 to 1 odds as you have described are extremely long odds. You cannot live your life like that.
I agree it's going to be a big problem with summer clubs/camps closed. Grandparents in some cases ot being able to step in. Some people at my work already dealing with this and work different/reduced hours to accommodate. Employers will need to be flexible where they can. I too thought the aim would be September for schools. I'm not spoiling for a argument either. It think I'm just a little tetchy! I'm still going into factories and seeing 100s of people working in close quarters so people can still eat things like buns. I would argue school is more essential than that. I know schools are going to be harder to keep people safe in. But potentially we could be living with this virus for years. Schools are going to have to find a way.
The employer can recall an employee from furlough should they wish. So in theory come first of June if you work in retail as an example things could be interesting.
Returning to school is not going to be mandatory. Parents will not be penalised if they decide not to send their kids. I think it's a judgement call depending on your work situation and the health of those your children will be in contact with at home.
So you’d say to your child. Get thissen a sweet? They are long odds, that hopefully will get longer. In the next jar, if they do live is another jar... If I changed it a bit and said you have 1000 sweets in the jar, and if the kid eats one his mum, dad, grandad or teacher will die. What then? This is beginning to sound like an American trying to say guns are safe, because cars kill more people....
it’s a difficult one though isn’t it? Unless they all got tested some could be asymptotic carriers. It’s why test trace and isolate is essential.
So is anyone who puts a child in a car or a bus not taking a risk? Statistically a much greater risk than Covid19?
Other scientists are coming to different conclusions as studies in the US show. It’s just too early to quote with any confidence any scientist in that sort of detail.
Absolutely and with this shower we have its worrying we will balls that up too. You will obviously still get outbreaks with that but hopefully it will keep numbers manageable for the health service.
You’re right, we should not bother with seatbelts or speed limits either. To be fair, nobody I know has died in a car accident this year, but 3 have died of COVID19. But maybe I’m just being dramatic. After all business is more important.
