Me too.Kev. I'm clapping all the medical staff and key workers around the world that are at the frontline of the epidemic.

I'll be stood on our front doorstep applauding because I want to show my appreciation & respect to people who are real heroes, in my opinion. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter, so I'm not chasing 'likes' from people I don't know. Nor am I doing it to attract the attention of anyone else.
However, none of this means I'm NOT a pillock!:)

I don’t think anyone is suggesting you have any ulterior motives, mate, nor anyone else that’s standing at their doors clapping. I’ve done so every week and will continue to.

It’s those that are out with the pots and pans, fireworks, musical instruments, or those running up and down the street recording it that people have a problem with.

It really has become a oneupmanship contest for these people and I think it’s disgusting.

I'm also deliberately avoiding doing things like that. Although I admit it presents Super Tyke & Jay with the opportunity to point out that it's indicative of my utter bone idleness!:D

To be honest I'm not really sure why you bother clapping anyway, with the lack of effort you no doubt put in I'd be surprised if you can hear the sound yourself nevermind anyone else hear it.
Although you not being able to hear it could also be just because you're old. ;)

Two insults in one post. I'm happy with that.

I have to agree that as with most high profile events it has become a virtue signalling competition. Our lass is a nurse so I will continue doing it but the OTT look at me stuff is doing my head in.

This will be the first week I have done it without her - she is on nights at Barnsley A&E at the minute.

The missus likes the clapping. However, she says she's had to look the other way when fellow staff in the hospital have been filming each other doing funny dances in their uniforms etc. I agree with her on that one. It doesn't sit right with me.

This thread is a great example though, that we are all different. It should be celebrated.

Our lass says the same about the funny dances from her colleagues. She liked them at first but thinks they've been done to death now. I must admit that because I hardly ever go on social media I haven't seen many; I only see them when she is sticking her phone in my face so I can share the experience.

Not me. Sorry I now contribute to a charity aimed at nhs workers. No problem with anyone who does, it’s just not my thing.

I have terrible anxiety when it comes to doing anything like this, but stood and clapped, wish I could be an exhibitionist, everyone is different but the fireworks upset me as the fireworks round here were like firebomb type and all the birds that had settled to roost for night ,were flying about in blind panic, made me feel sad and wondered how many other animals are being scared when we are meant to be just clapping

I'm getting some blue smoke bombs next week, no pyro, no party.

There won't be any stewards chasing me round the street like I've killed someone.

What a neighbourhood of attention seekers in their costumes, getting ready to make as much noise as possible, can't wait to get in front of the TV camera and probably film it so they can get their social media likes and views.

Those pesky costume wearers, making noise for a few minutes. Like the Police on London Bridge, and Boris at No10.

To be fair to the people on my street there was genuine, non-attention seeking clapping from all. There was a little girl two doors down banging a kettle...Generally well done. No prima donna facebook heroes
