Wow! So people can’t make themselves feel better by clapping and cheering on the NHS?!? Get a grip folks!

The same people criticising are the ones who say there will be more suicides because of a lack of social interaction... make your minds up

I’ll be out, I may even sing a song... even better post it on snapbook and ask for donations...

You set of miserable whining gits!

Nothing wrong at all with supporting the nhs. No one I think has suggested lack of support. As to the lack of social interaction and suicide I personally don't think 5 minutes on a doorstep or leaning out of a window is particularly impacting

Thanks for your opinion.... the old dears around me, who don’t see anybody all week may beg to differ.

People can clap/applaud all they want.

Unfortunately this is not converted into any form of currency. for any of the staff.

If I worked for the NHS I know which I would prefer.

I'd willingly pay more in Income tax or NIC

I wish those that tax evade/avoid would do the honourable thing - I won't hold my breath though - these people probably clap along too

I've clapped every week but I won't be anymore, and I'm an NHS worker. I'm sick of the fireworks distressing my cat and I don't want to be a part of it.

    The thing is.... Just clap.

    That's all. Clap.

It's not for your benefit. All these fireworks and horns for Facebook likes is bizarre.

    Just clap.

I’ll be clapping as usual. I understand it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I like standing with my NHS-working partner and clapping for a bit. I like the guy next door but one, he’s in his 80s who plays the bagpipes. It’s a minute where our little street in our little village comes together to say thanks. It’s not a political statement. It’s not one-upmanship. It’s just a nice moment and I like nice moments.

Each to their own I suppose!

Initially it was a great idea in the early days of the pandemic.

People show their appreciation by clapping their hands, we do it at football matches, live shows, concerts etc, which is fine and normal.

Our street is bang average suberbia that came out on Thursdays to clap and appreciate the NHS .

Then one bloke came out with pots and pans, then the week after another with a tambourine, then finally last week a bloke with a bloody trombone .

It's turned into keeping up with Jones's and I'm not laiking it.

Each to their own bit I for one will be at my front door come 8pm . I asked the wife last week does it make a difference and she and her work colleagues says it makes a massive difference . They know we can’t do anything about PPE and wages but we can still show our appreciation .

I’ve stood and clapped for 60 seconds at oakwell many of time’s for people who have passed away who lve never met or known in my life so I can do it for the NHS and all key workers .

That’s nail on the head mate.
I have clapped, every time, and shall do so tonight. And it’s because I appreciate the NHS and the key workers.
What I shall not do is dress up as Buzz Lightyear and film myself lavishing attention on myself because it isn’t about me, it’s about the key workers who have carried us through this lockdown.

That's not the case. Many of my colleagues really enjoy this. I'm not overly bothered and my wife drags me out if I'm off. But then I must admit to getting a little emotional though seeing everybody out. It's good to see the community coming together if only for that short period of time.

The thing is though that, as with most things, while people like you and at a wild guess probably three quarters of those outside clapping are doing so because they genuinely just want to stand on their doorstep and clap as a way of saying I AM GENUINELY THANKFUL there are sadly also a large amount of people who want to make a big song and dance in a look at me way. For me they aren't genuine at all and I'd say they're almost disrespecting the doctors and nurses by trying to take the good gesture you do and make it about them instead.

Nothing that really can be done about that though, I can't read people's minds and know what their intention is and i can't go round banning people from joining in so really I just have to accept they're twa.ts BUT at the same time remember that because Darren with his fireworks is a Pillock wanting attention it doesn't mean that Kevin who's out there clapping is a Pillock as well. Just because you're both out there at the same time doing things supposedly for the same reason doesn't mean you're both the same people with the same intentions. Just like how me supporting Barnsley doesn't make me the same as the pissed up fool shouting racist abuse.

Oh, it doesn't necessarily mean that Kevin ISNT a Pillock but that's just in general.
