Teams that have won the title /promotion on last day

    Portsmouth, 2017. Champions having spent last half hour of the season at top of the league. This was the only time all season they were top.

    Doncaster 2013, win league one title in 93rd minute, from Brentford who just had a penalty to take the title themselves. Pen missed, Donny race up the other end and score.

    Arsenal. Needed to win 2-0 at Anfield to take the 1989 Championship away from Liverpool. Clinched it in the dying seconds.

    Closer to home, we were nowhere in 2015 until our late run to the playoffs which resulted in promotion.

    Yet Leeds and WBA fans think they have a divine right to enter the Premier League based on current standings.

    If the season can’t be finished, then it’s tough luck in my opinion. I say this not caring what division we end up in. I’m just sick of the pressure being exerted by big clubs.

    Wasn't final day but didn't Aston Villa win their final 10 league games to make the play-offs under Dean Smith.

    I agree, particularly given Leeds have bottled it towards the end of the season a few times over the years. Anything can happen in football, just look at when we stayed up under Flitcroft. I thought we were well and truly done for before that amazing run of form.

    I’m also with you in that I don’t particularly care anymore what division we are playing in when we resume, I just want to get back to normality, whenever that may be.

    Whatever the outcome, there will be teams unhappy. I’m of the opinion to void this season now and start “next season” whenever it’s safe enough to do so.

    No fair way to decide it without being able to play the games. But the fairest way is to count it null and void. So many examples of teams surviving, going up, going down etc on the last day. You cannot just take it as it is now.

    I saw a Villa fan on Twitter saying they were 12th in the league at this point last season.

    I’ve still yet to have anyone who supports promotions being honoured as they stand, to explain how that is in anyway fair. Regardless of my bias to anything relating to L*** United, if you’re in the top six you only have to point at the December to February form where both them and WBA struggled to get any points.

    Points per game doesn’t work as it doesn’t take in to account injuries, suspensions, whether you were home/away, or upcoming fixtures. Nothing works. We have bigger things to focus on and all ‘our’ energy should be on the 20/21 season and whether that can even happen.

    This season is done and they should just admit it and stop wasting time

    I think it's going to be resolved with top two teams going up (three in League 2) and no relegation. Then following season relegate 5 in Premier League, 5 in the Championship and 7 in League 1 and 4 in League 2.

    Honestly though, why? That’s what I don’t understand. Surely the legal cases and gripes from any teams in the top two not going up, will be just as substantial as what will come from those teams chasing the top two?

    Yeah I suppose. I'm clinging onto the hope that we'll retain our Championship status somehow. I'll champion any idea that achieves that.

    If this was to happen then I'd be very surprised if so many are relegated the following season as I think there will be a number of clubs who fold between now and then.

    5 teams going down from the Prem would be carnage. Funny though. It might also start some shakeup around finance.

    You only have to look at league one, Rotherham are second and there are 6 teams within 3 points of them to see why promoting on current position can’t work.

    After 37 games in 2015/16 we were 6th on 58 points with Bradford on the same number but with worse goal difference.

    Guess which club was 1st, top of the Championship last season with nine games remaining?
