I figured they were talking about the coach driver but I've no idea who that is. The operational side back then was appallingly amateur. Can you remember Shepherds rant at me on here about the cheap rat we sold in the club shop? I complained about the quality of it and he replied that they were "trinkets" and then accused me of taking poor quality photos of them to make them look bad. The photos were actually just links to the official sites images.
Not the best era of running a club to be honest from an operational sense. I completely forgot that Gordon Shepherd used to post on here!
If they had sold rat it would have still been a better club shop seller than some of the rubbish we sold in them days.
The morning after the night before ....... If you haven’t watched this yet you’ve got to make it essential viewing for the weekend. I was laughing about it until the early hours and just watched the opening 15 minutes again
Absolutely brilliant viewing last night. Andy clearly knew what to expect from Rick & just tried to get a word in edgeways every now & then. Rick so bizarre, not giving a **** about his language, opinions of people, or the fact he was picking his nose & grooming his hair all the way through, whilst lying in bed. You can tell he's a guy that can get people motivated though & will give praise & criticism fairly & in a considered way. It's a shame they weren't given the support at the time, but that could be said of a few managers in the post Dennis era IMO, Mark Robins being another. It is what it is though, the club is still here & in times like this we need to be thankful of that.
Brilliant assessment. Preparing for last night and going through the promotion season, the results, the bizarre appointment of Simon Davey, and then listening to them both so confidently predict where they would have taken us with support from the board, I did remember how frustrating that sacking felt at the time. But we never got relegated under Davey and had the FA Cup wins against Liverpool and Chelsea, so what do you do? Outside of that FA Cup run it was a pretty forgettable era though. Would have loved to see that promotion team supplemented with McPhail, Chopra, McIndoe and one or two others of quality.
They wouldn’t tell me. Which based on how open and honest Rick was (without a care in the world) leads me to think it’s absolutely horrific!
That interview has to be one of the funniest I have seen. The impromptu sharp wit of Rick and at times the look on Ben and Andys faces was priceless. I believe it would have been a laugh a minute playing under those two. The " revelation" regarding the refusal to sign the quality players we needed didn't surprise really. Sounds as though that what with the possible friction that existed, the parting of the ways was inevitable. Ricks comments regarding Simon Davey were brilliant. Thanks for another great video Ben and the team. Rick Holden has to be one of the best wingers that ever played the game by the way.
Yea thanks Loko....best one yet. Holden was comedy gold ......i think it enforces what we knew about the budget that was promised and removed and then money found for (ahem) a not very nice person in Davey. A few years ago i was on my holidays and was talking to a lovely couple, the lad on hearing i was a reds fan.....quizzed me did i know Ricky Holden (the dirty so and so) i told him of course i did.....he then told me he was an an apprentice at Halifax and had to do (along with other duties) Ricky Holdens boots and he once sh#t in them, for him to then clean!! ha ha....imagine that nowdays!!
I tell you, if you don't make a career as an interviewer there is something wrong. One of the most famous ones of all time went to my school. I should know. You are 50 times better than him & he was decent. These interviews are class. A great interviewer gets people talking & says little, just keeping the chat on point. You have nailed it.
That means a lot mate. Honestly though, I think it's because I said right at the start that nobody cares who the interviewer is as they just want to here from the players and managers, so I just pull their chord and let them go. Easier with some than others but we've been really lucky with the people coming on. Just glad it's been well received and hitting what it set out to more than anything else.
Brilliant watch that Ben.(Just watched) Loved every minute of it. Well done. Always knew Shepherd was an idiot. The Liverpool debacle lies up there as the biggest cockup in my time re the reds. Allowing them as much airtime as you did and letting em have freedom to get everything over is a show of class.
Thanks mate. I don't think we'll quite have another one like it ...... I forgot Shepherd was involved in the Liverpool debacle. I'd mentally always pinned the blame on Don Rowing, but it stands to reason Shepherd was still there in his last few months. I think we share the same opinion on all of that!
What a fantastic 1h 45m+. I don't know how you kept a straight face throughout that Ben. The comments about Davey and Shepherd were unreal, setting Davey up and so on was brilliant.
My mistake mate. It was indeed Don Rowing. An interview with Hendrie and Hignett together along those lines. I could see being a corker. Given Higgys recollections. I’ve tried to pick up on who was the snake in the grass. A few times but couldn’t tell. Care to divulge. ?
I don't think I'm divulging anything here as they said it was a certain Simon Davey. Or I think I said 'Simon Davey' and Rick replied 'Well you said his name not me'.
