    Yes, the reason I ask is that a few years back I went to see him at the Lamproom( an evening with Mick McCarthy) & I thought I heard him say He was a Leeds fan. I have nowt against Leeds I'm indifferent to them & I don't have a problem with Mick being a Leeds fan. Just after a bit of clarification, you can discard this question if you want.

    It would be a massive shame if he didn't manage us. He should finish his career taking us up to the Premiership, that would be a way to end on a high.

    1. As a young lad I used to watch them train when Allan Clarke became manager. I remember hearing the rustle of polythene bags under their shorts, presumably to sweat weight off? Did it work, and would it work for the modern game?
    2. I clearly remember you calling Phil Chambers “Albie” in training. What was that about, his nickname presumably? Why?

    Reason I asked is that he once told someone in my family that he felt he had “unfinished business” at Oakwell. Probably about 10 years ago, but I have no reason to disbelieve what was said at the time.

    How was the step up from Worsbrough Bridge to Barnsley?

    Does he still keep in touch with any of his old mates from Worsbrough and in particular the "Elm Tree" gang who he used to play football with.

    A lot of his mates reckoned his brother was a better player than Mick but he wasnt interested in a career in football. Any truth to that?

    This was over a meal, so not in passing conversation, so at the time it was said i think it would have been genuine. However, things may well have changed since then.

    Lots of talk of the hard men in football when Mick was starting his career. Who were the centre forwards who he remembers great battles with and was Mick Harford one of them?
