yes that’s my understanding to go through the approval process won’t be quick. There is no quick fix

Antibody tests will be very useful in the whole test & trace process & could in part be a game changer.

I pray that a drug is found to reduce symptoms. The US one, that is ebola related sounds a bit tenuous at the moment, as to whether it actually might save lives, although freeing up A&E beds in itself would be a short term win.

It currently takes 2-3 months to administer the flu vaccine to around 14 million people in the UK every autumn, so I suspect for 30 million people it will take 4-6 months and nearer a year for the entire population - not discounting the fact that it might need to be an annual vaccination for the next few years with mandatory quarantine for anyone coming or visiting from countries that still have outbreaks.

I can't see it taking that long because just like they are rushing a vaccine far quicker than usual, they will do the same to vacinate everyone. The important thing is to start with those with underlying health conditions and those 50 and over, especially if they have to be locked down in the future and not just the over 70s......

    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1...ocial-distancing-covid19-deaths-exit-strategy

The under 50s and healthy people will have to wait longer, but it wouldn't be a surprise to get everyone done by Christmas.

This isn't addressed by anyone saying football can test everyone is it. People are going to test positive. Then what? Is anyone going to want to play agaisnt that team then?

Very interesting. For him to come out with what he has privately or not says to me that as a club they have had some guidance from somewhere.

Football and sport in general has to take a back seat until this is over with and while ever 600+ people a day are losing their lives it will be a long time before it starts again

I wouldn’t equate a BAU flu vaccine process with what would happen with a CV19 vaccine to get the country running.

that’s like saying we can’t build a hospital in a fortnight because it took 3 years to build a new wing at my local... etc.

The difference is blind testing takes as long as it does, because you need to see what the post immunisation effects are, in terms of how ill people get from it, the level of dosage needed & how long immunity lasts. These are things that cannot be sped up, unless a time machine is also invented.

Everything I have read suggests we are looking at a minimum of a year for a vaccine. And that is if all goes well and is still a best case scenario.

Yep, and a year to mass produce a vaccine would be an absolutely sensational scientific achievement. Anything significantly less than that is impossible.

I appreciate testing is complex. :)
I was responding to a post about the length of time it takes to administer the flu vaccine

Which is why nations across Europe are so stumped. Staying in lockdown until a vaccine is not viable. It's going to be a delicate balancing act.

You might unfortunately, need a sharper lockdown to bring cases under control (ideally close to zero) before considering unlocking - parts of Japan have gone into their second lockdown in two months after a rise in Hokaido - although they are still around 1-2% of the UK official total.

Yes I've read suggestions of in and out of lockdown. I think our government have been worried about that as they don't think people will obey it. I think they have actually been surprised how well the majority have followed the rules.

would that mean no promotion from league 1 and (more importantly) no relegation from the Championship?
If there is to be no relegation/promotion from the Championship what's the point of resuming things?
