Hi name cropped up in discussion in our house. General agreement that neither Barnsley fans or Wednesday fans liked him much.

I had the dubious pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions back in the 80s, when I worked at Oakwell. Got to say he was equally annoying in person. I always remember when real celebrities (like Charlie Williams) came in, and were polite, friendly and charming, and then GC used to come in with an air of "I'm here, roll out the red carpet.... " He used to tell everyone that the game won't happen without him - which was true, but it also wouldn't happen without the club doctor, safety officer etc - none of whom felt the need to tell everyone.

I can see him now playing up to the crowd.

Just looked him up on Wiki. He's in his late 70s. He looked about 55+ in 1987!

I liked him. He came up to me and my dad outside of Oakwell once and gave us some complimentaries. I can also remember him ignoring that blatant handball by Andy Saville which resulted in John Deehan's equaliser v Leeds in the FA Cup.

Was it George Courtney who gave Oldham the ghost penalty in the cup tie at Boundary Park?

Me and my dad were in hysterics after that, it was like a defensive volleyball shot at the net......

Remember a photo at the time, of Mel Sterland looking gutted, as he thought he'd scored the winner.
