RIDDOR reporting of COVID-19
You must only make a report under RIDDOR (The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013) when:

• an unintended incident at work has led to someone’s possible or actual exposure to coronavirus. This must be reported as a dangerous occurrence.
• a worker has been diagnosed as having COVID 19 and there is reasonable evidence that it was caused by exposure at work. This must be reported as a case of disease.
• a worker dies as a result of occupational exposure to coronavirus.

 

So taking into account people are infectious before being symptomatic surely the first point means others would have possible exposure unless they work alone.

 

Although the National Federation of Fish Fryers (that's actually a thing) advised they close because they can't guarantee safety for employees etc, they're still a takeaway. Fish shop near me been open throughout. They do deliveries and collection.

 

Can you join the national federation of fish fryers even if you don't own a chippy? Sounds like a fun group.

Don't be such a pollock, you can only join if you are a sole trader . Flout the rules and you will end up in a scrap and you'll end up getting battered.

What about furlough?

 

You can't choose to furlough yourself, it's the employers decision. Businesses are realising if they don't open now they never will. So for many its either go to work or don't get paid.

 

That's an employers decision to furlough an employee instead of makigntgem redundant. When the employer decides to end furlough and recall employees to work then you go back to work as you are employed by them

 

But they shouldn't be doing that until the government lift the "essential work" only restriction should they.
Like I say: more people out and about means more prolonged restrictive measures which will ultimately have a much higher impact on many people.

 

We will pay the price for this though, a much greater one than if people would have stuck rigidly to an 8 week proper lockdown say.
But like I am happy to acknowledge I have bias, I am ward based and my wife is on the 'at severe risk' register being in remission and receiving on going preventative medication.

 

There is no essential work only restriction. Only certain industries have been forced to close, mainly retail and hospitality.

Other than the specified industries every other company in the UK is not only allowed to operate but has been advised to

Edit: a lot of people have mistakenly got the idea that in order to be working now you MUST be a key or essential worker. That's simply untrue and is down to misinterpreting what was said.

There were three different things said that appear to have confused a lot o people.
1. A list of key or essential workers was announced which allowed children to still go to school if their parents were on the list.
2. A completely separate instruction to close certain specified and targeted industries. Those listed were the only ones told to close
3. An instruction to work from home wherever possible and only go to your place of work if the travel was essential (or the job can't be done at home so the TRAVEL is essential not the job)

A lot of people (and I've seen them on here too) are assuming that because they are not in the list of industries forced to close as per point 2 then they must be an essential worker mentioned in point 1. In reality the vast majority are in point 3, none essential jobs that haven't been forced to close.

 

You're floundering now.

 

Don't think I'm qualified to know what the right course of action is/would be.
Shutting everything down for 8 weeks would be devastating too.
What I do know is the people going to work can't be blamed for doing so.

 

I'm not confused: people should only be working if it is of an essential nature. They've managed this fine in quite a few countries and my parents will shortly be benefitting from this with an ease of restriction on Monday in Greece.

It's ok. One of my old and dearest mates has been laid to rest today: another statistic of the coronavirus. 30 odd years mates but only a handful of family allowed to lay the poor lad to rest: he deserved so very much more. But you are desperate for the killing to continue.

 

You are completely missing the point, I'm not sure if it's on purpose or not. You said that people being told to return to work shouldn't go. That's not feasible. If you have a job and your employer is open as per government guidelines and your employer tells you to return to work you don't have a lot of choice in the matter.

And whilst I appreciate you're grieving and understanding how hard things are and how emotional you are it is bang out of order to accuse me of being desperate for the killing to continue

 

I disagree strongly. You are advocating that people go back to work thus leading to more people dying. You should be admonishing the employers.
The government for all their failings are safeguarding people financially in the short term: but no, the British can't tolerate a couple of months sacrifice for the greater good.
