Germany flew patients from Italy and France to hospitals within Germany with spare ICU beds....which they had plenty of due to a good strategy to deal with the virus and actual real funding for their heath service meaning they had plenty of capacity....it's called "planning".

I have no dog in this fight. I thought however that the EU was based heavily upon the pillars of freedom of movement and trade. If the Brits had known you could do what you liked when you liked, and that when the chips were down you could just butt out of e.g. freedom of movement, we might never have voted to leave. We were indeed uneducated about the EU. We thought that they had certain absolute rules we'd be stuck with. Obviously they don't. Good for them. At least they give everyone the vote, which it seems you wouldn't. I'm on their side there.
I'd give everybody the vote. I wouldn't give the uneducated public the vote on such an important issue that our elected leaders are paid to make.
So as far as leaving the EU is concerned, you'd prefer a majority of (probably predominantly) Conservative MPs having the ability just to take us out?
Interesting if it turns out to be not true I might need to eat some humble pie. Must admit not too familiar with the author but several people who are normally reliable retweeted it so I thought it was valid. Now Mr O’Connell had better produce some evidence or I will look a bit of a tit for putting it on here
It was a referendum. We've had them before and we abide by the result. No parliament would have taken us out of the EU without one, even if you preferred that they could.
If that was a true referendum Gegenpresser then my pricks a blota, you got the remaining team, Cameron, Osborne and the leader that pr!ck Alan Johnson the bullshyte they came out with was ridiculous and then you had the leaving Team hoooo *u*k me nar this is a gange of lying ******** Farage, Gove, Duncan-Smith, Francois and the Leader Boris Johnson ho yes I forgot professor in E.U. matters Tim Martin now if there's a brain cell between the lot of them thats it. No one who voted new what they were voting for, BUT WE KNOW NOW what we have done to this country and who will benefit and who will not if you don't you're an idiot.
The blokes got form for baiting young BAME female conservatives, he's had twitter handles banned for racial abuse and defended known anti semites, he has on more than one occassion used social media to arrange twitter pile ons targeting Jewish women. He has made more than one outlandish statement over the last few years that has been destroyed by fullfact. Infact, it appears that he has refused to work with fullfact to validate his claims and refused suggesting they were not capable of managing the data. The blokes a race baiting misogynistic crank. Perhaps this will be a bit of a wake up call for people to do their research and wait for evidence from both sides of the arguement instead of going off half cocked at some very spurious twitter claims because it justifies their hatred of the Tories.
A brave post. I wonder any of those who jumped on this "Tory Propoganda" bandwagon can further corroborate its veracity? I have no idea what the truth is. And prefer to keep quiet until i do.
So this is fake. All the vile anti government crap about this subject will be conveniently swept under the carpet and forgotten right? Along with the fact that so many people were suckered into believing it. Well done.
Did China release COVID on the world, or did we invite it in? As a naturally mutating virus jumping from animals to humans (which happens fairly regularly - the last time in Mexico IIRC for Swine Flu), we had over 2 months of warnings to stop it getting here, but left the doors open for it to come in and party. If you read the reports last week, USA intelligence and NATO/Israel knew in November last year, so nearer 4 months of a potential threat. China, South Korea and Taiwan had all gone into lockdown before the end of January to stop the spread. Hubei province alone having a population of around 58m people. USA had blocked travel from China. The government was crowdfunding for Big Ben to bong. Italy went into crisis in late February/early March, followed by Spain and France. The Prime Minister was boasting about shaking hands with patients. Ireland canceled St Patricks Day, we let Cheltenham go ahead (and Liverpool - Athletico and the Stereophonics gig in Cardiff) We announced a half-arsed lockdown, and everyone went to the pub, to the coast (or National Park) then visited their mum. A proper lockdown on Friday March 20th would have saved over 4,000 of the 17000 or so that have died in hospital. A proper lockdown on Monday March 16th would have saved around half of those that died in hospital. If we had locked down around 2-3 weeks earlier (as many epidemiologists and other scientists were saying) when things were getting bad in Italy, we would have a death toll of around 1000.
They always had the ability - the important point you're missing is that they (MP's) with a greater understanding of what being in the EU actually meant (both the positives and negatives - it's their job to understand our constitutional rights) had no desire to take us out - even the majority of just Tories, even when pressed by the referendum result they clearly still didn't want to. Do I 'like' parliament? Do I 'trust' tory MP's? They're by nature a more reliable mechanism for making important decisions than an electorate that has neither the time nor inclination to 'research' the issue sufficiently.
Well whilst I respect your faith in our politicians, I am afraid I do not share it. They seem to me, in these days of extremes, to largely make decisions based upon their own political persuasions and self interest, rather than what is best for us all. They need have no intellect to get the job. They need pass no exams. Instead they need to toe a certain line and have the energy to have stuck at ingratiating themselves with the right people. I do not think I've missed the point - the point is that these MPs (the ones whom you refer to as a "reliable mechanism") - voted to give us a referendum on Brexit - 554 to 53 in favour of one . So it seems to me that they didn't do much of a good job with that.
In almost every other industry, mandatory training is required to progress and often remain employed in that industry - think about SIA licence for event security, HGV licence to drive lorries, hygiene/first aid certificates and countless other examples. Yet MPs are allowed to draft laws and vote on subjects that affect everybody in the UK (and often international relations) without training in the subjects that they are voting on. They vote on personal feelings and often on their personal financial interests (either existing investments or to support their corporate sponsors). I'd make every MP have to undergo compulsory training (from independent experts) on every major law intended to pass through Parliament and have to pass a mandatory assessment before they could vote on it. If they fail 3 times, they have to step down and a compulsory by-election. They are unable to stand to be an MP again until they have passed that assessment. Its 100 years too late and the world is too complex for MPs to make decisions based on feelings and ideology and then be surprised by the effects of their decisions.
They thought we'd vote remain. Everyone thought we'd vote remain. Even Johnson and Gove, who headed the leave campaign were convinced we'd vote remain. The campaign as far as they were concerned was solely to inflate their political presence and further their own careers. Their dumbfounded faces, without an ounce of celebration in their demeanor, on the morning after as they announced they would now be scuttling away gave light to the whole scam. Even those campaigning for it didn't want it. But they'd messed up. They hadn't realised just how disenfranchised normal people had become with mainstream politics and lying politicians and anything was better than continuing with the same old crap.
